Searle had an intersting (if that's the word!) life. He was a prisoner of the
Japanese during WW2, and like all such very badly mistreated. He
recorded the ordeal in drawings made on any scraps of paper he could
find, using his own blood for ink!

He then went on to create a series of cartoons about a deeply twisted
girl's school called St. Trinians, which spawned in turn a series of movies,
the first of which starred the inimitable Alistair Sim as the
Headmistress and her shady brother.

Among other things, Searle provided countless illustrations for
magazines, and even a few movies. He did the opening credits, for
instance, for THOSE MAGNIFICENT MEN IN THEIR FLYING MACHINES.

Wasn't familiar with Searle (googled him like a good boy and enjoyed what I saw though), but that piece is a thing of beauty, JB. Fingers crossed that you actually get it. Despite being American and all. :)

Yup. He also did the opening credits for the 1970 film "Scrooge" (with Albert Finney).

(I love that damn movie)

I just picked up this Damion Scott page. There's something really gestural
and "alive" about his work.
