…makes me wonder how Spidey will eat with that mask. never quite sure how the mask connects to his head,at the bottom of the neck or under his chin?

***

On occasion he has been shown to roll it up from under his chin. The mask part is separate from the rest of the suit, as are the boots and gloves. The tunic is also separate from the leggings.

(In some shots that struck me as odd, he has been show tucking things -- envelopes mostly -- into his "belt", as if the webbing around his waist is part of the leggins, rather than the tunic.)

…again I'm impressed by the inking.

PITT pens may be the best thing to ever happen in my career! Which means Faber-Castell should be discontinuing them any day now!

I love it! JB, you are the master of the almost lost art of drawing happy superheroes!

 Did Peter bring one of Aunt May's pies for dessert?

++++++++++++

Yeah, some artists draw the red "belt" as if it were part of the leggings, while others (such as Ditko and JB) use the lower edge of the "belt" as the separation line between the tunic and leggings.

Some artists cheat with the mask's separation line. Occasionally, Parker's entire neck is covered by the costume's tunic, and other times, he has more of a Superman-esque cut to the tunic (with his exposed neck covered by the mask when it's in place).

In the movies, both versions of the costume's neckline appear, depending on the scene!

The Magic of Hollywood! Like when Keaton tears off his licorice cowl in BATMAN RETURNS and the black greasepaint 'round his eyes disappears!

JB, How about a quick sketch of the different elements of Spider-Man's costume, so that we can all understand how it's supposed to go on and come off?

Love this commission. Just a double date for hard working crime fighters. I love the spread Alfred is fixing up for the four of them. I wonder what kind of music will they be playing. Alfred better stick around and play chaperone. It could just get crazy.

That diagram would be a good way to illustrate the webbing rule, too. If you turn the image 180 dgrees then the webbing arcs would remain in the same direction, right? And if you had one glove pointing up the arcs would still go the same direction as well, right?

BTW, JB, what do you think about maybe having an entire thread dedicated to perspective? Do you think there is enough discussion to keep a thread like that going? I have some questions on the subject I would like to ask, too. Maybe it could be devoted to all kinds of technical drawing discussion?
