The first comic my wife suggests for other women to try out is almost always True Story Swear to God. It's full of great character and emotions, and can just as effectively bring a smile to your face as a tear to your eye.

Astro City.
It will work like a charm.
Especially if you can find the 1/2 issue, The Nearness of You either in single
or in the TPB.
You'll both cry, and that's a good thing.

ULTIMATE SPIDERMAN - first story arc.
That was my wife's first time - and she had NO idea about anything to do with spiderman.
She was sobbing when Uncle Ben died and was pissed at me for letting her read it without telling her in advance. It had NEVER occured to me that she didn't know spiderman's origin....
She then wanted me to let her read "only the best" - so she continued with Ultimate Spiderman, I gave her Midnight Nation, and then she became a fan of Harley Quinn (go figure).

Spider-man Loves Mary Jane. since i don't have a wife (and probably
won't be getting one) i'm content to pass it out to as many of my female
friends as possible. and they all love it.

I would recommend Sandman trades, starting with Dream Country and then
Season of Mists.
I agree with Sandman but why out of order?
Just curious.

My wife loved Box Office Poison, as did I. She ate it up. She also liked Tricked and Blankets.
Go for the slice of life indie stuff with plenty of romance. Chicks dig it.

My wife doesn't read comics at all (and I don't mind it- it's kind of "my" dorky thing :-). But about 10 years ago, she would peruse the Too Much Coffee Man comics I bought her when we lived in Texas, mostly due to the coffee references than the humor.

ATTN: Collector Mentality Fanboys; Don't read this post. It may cause you harm.
When I go to the LCS I pick my books off the rack, top copy, never the Alternate cover (I figure my merchant can make more money selling variants to collectors, so I take the common cover), pay for them, throw them in a bag, and go home. Then I put them on the reading table next to the recliner. Some go on the reading table next to the "throne" in the facilities. They stay on those two reading tables for about a month, and when they are all read, they get tossed on a shelf, in a pile, in no order, with no protection. My wife usually encounters comics in the lavatory. She reads some, glances at others, and occasionally follows a mini series or two. She is now at the point that if I pre-emptively correct her confusing DC and MCG Universes, she feels insulted at my assumption. She has no problem being seen with a man over 50 years of age who is reading a comic book in public. She has even commented that it seems to her that my personal moral code is, to a degree, taken from DC's Silver Age books.
No wonder I like her.

That's what I do with 'em too, Tom. Many times my wife has come across a TPB in the restroom and read it that way.
