What Wes and Aaron just said. And frankly, if JB decides he no longer wants
the subject of [fill in the blank], that's fine -- it's his board. If I want to hear
what certain people on this board have to say about those subjects, I'll just
e-mail 'em or PM them on MySpace.

Earlier in the thread someone suggested a sub-forum for "forbidden topics". I second the notion. You could even have the mods set up an auto response where after each post another post automatically pops up and says, "You're wrong!", or a piucture of Harlan, or something of a similar nature. It might just be good, goofy fun.

Seriously, I agree with Joe Meyer's sentiments about the concept of 'forbidden subjects' being sad. And when they re-name this "the Tom Tryon Forum" then my feelings will matter. Until then, nobody is holding a gun (or furniture) to my head. You make rules and if I want to play, I must accept those rules. I'll give credit where it is due: You did not make a rule stating "Everyone must like all the rules".

I couldn't disagree with the forbidden subjects edict more, but then again, if everyone agreed about everything, there wouldn't be message boards at all.

Except, of course, to find out what Zaki thinks.Hi Zaki!

"
And Joe, it's not about alienating anyone. That said, the result of banning the talk of something like a Spider-Man movie (which is completely within the realm of "about  or related or within spitting distance to JB") is that the community members begin to feel alienated, whether that's expressed online and or not, and whether you see it or not. "

If it alienates people who want nothing else but to discuss the Spider-Man movie, for example, so be it. JB is the most important person on this board.

George looks at the chair. It looks to be just about the right size and
weight to take down a human being in one swing- but with three targets,
who does he hit first? Will he be able to get the others, or will the wails of
the first alert them before he can strike? It's a tough call...

With Zaki being second -- a distant second, but second nevertheless.

Well, I agree that the board would not exist if it wasn't for JB, Joe. And in more than one way, as he is both the common interest that brought us all together and our gracious host. That said, I can definitely see Brett's point (and agree with a lot of it). After all, I think part of it is that it might actually alienate people who want to discuss not only the Spider-Man but that too, Joe.
JB brought the lot of us together, and many of us will only ever meet in here. In a sense, JB's "house" is our meeting place. And while I can understand it if JB doesn't want to talk about the something like the coming Spider-Man movie, which is of course his right (especially in his own house), I could also understand if someone feels a bit disappointed at not even being allowed to discuss it with some of JB's other guests "in the kitchen" (to use a good party metaphor).

Just my penny!

Also: of course, Zaki must be the second most important person in here, JM... He's got a Bone avatar. That's got to count for something. Right?

I always thought I was second. But I'm willing to settle for a close third.

They can set up their own board, if that's the case.

Awesome, Joe.

Using the party analogy, if a group of people are told to go down the street and set up an entire other party for the sole purpose of having a conversation about Spider-Man, who starts to look like the unreasonable one? Consider that said conversation is one that more than 80% of the party is probably interested in hearing.

There is certainly such a thing as being a courteous guest - is there also another angle that asks one to be a gracious host?

So it's only ever an all or nothing deal? People need to spend time on two fora in order to basically spend time with the same people? Just in order to share a few ideas on a topic that the host doesn't appreciate?
Ah well, I might've missed something bad going on in that discussion (of which I didn't take part).

Joe also wrote:

How about sharing second place with Zaki, Joe? That acceptable?
