I like to tell my students my UFO story every year. When I was 7-years-old my family was traveling to Connecticut to visit relatives when we noticed a number of cars pulled over on the highway, with people outside their cars looking at something. So we pulled over too, got out of the car and saw a spherical collection of lights in the night sky. We took pictures with a disposable camera which we lost and apparently I'm the only member of my family to remember this.
In the internet age I conducted a search - "UFO Connecticut 1987" and found images of the exact thing I remembered seeing. Link goes to Reddit.
I tell my students I remember this and it's fascinating to find images that reflect my memory, but I also tell them that under no circumstances do I believe it has an "alien" origin. The "u" in UFO just means "unidentified." By all definitions, anything we see up there that isn't immediately recognizable as an airplane, helicopter, fighter jet, or even weather balloon is technically "unidentified." None of that means "alien."
Incidentally I also remember seeing a stealth bomber flying over DC when I was a tween in the early 90's. My sister was a nanny in the Arlington/Alexandria area. Unrelated but also fascinating at least to me - I remember one time my other sister swore she saw the president of the United States on a jog around my nanny-sister's neighbourhood. This would've been George Bush. We all immediately told her there was no way - he'd have a ton of guards.
But I did later learn that George W. lived in the area at the time.
