Didn't the STAN LEE:ROBIN book establish that the Byrne/Austin pairing now is different than the pairing from 45+ years ago - both of your styles have evolved? These people want a time machine so they can feel like they're 7 years old again, that doesn't exist.

There have been complaints about everything Terry and I have done together since (and including) that ROBIN job. Obviously, the guy who penciled it and the guy who inked it had travelled far since the Seventies. It’s telling that, according to editor Mike Carlin, staffers were actually coming into his office to see the pencils as I was sending them in, they were so blown away, but (according to Mike) Terry’s first response to the work was “O no! He’s forgotten how to pencil!”

My favorite collaboration with you two isn’t X-Men. It’s THE LAST GALACTUS STORY and SUPERMAN 1-3. Just beautiful, beautiful stuff.
And FWIW, I did love the ROBIN book, too.

The ROBIN book was an odd experience. As soon as I saw the plot I was convinced Stan hadn’t written it, something confirmed, I felt, by the script. Also—that rather odd choice that had the robin (bird) I inserted as “punctuation” colored purple!

JB: IIRC (and this will be a very short answer if my neurons are just randomly firing), early on in "Elsewhen" you said that were this a project to be inked and colored, the penciling would have been done quite differently.
Will your approach to inking over bluelines now be different than if the original pencils-for-publication had been created?

I’m inking with an eye to a smooth, slick line, perhaps reminiscent of Terry without actually imitating. This has meant modifying the pencil line to some degree. Also, it recently occurred to me that because I am scanning the inked pages, I can make use of the technology and keep some of the rougher stuff—rocks, rubble, explosions—as pencils. It’s producing a very “artsy” effect.

Just placed my pre-order on Abrams. When you create an account you get a 20% off promo code. I thought I should post the Abrams link again as a bump:

Should work out well for you, with my faulty memory, I may accidentally order 1 or 2 more times before April!

I don't think you'll have to worry, JB. Not only are there a lot of opportunities to pre-order, but people have been hoping for this to be published for years now, even when it looked like there was little hope of it happening.
Personally, I think the wait will only intensify the buzz, especially as we get closer to April!
