I agree with Griggsy, the mods can't be everywhere at once, this is a busy forum!

 QUOTE:
It might have attracted some attention, who knows? JB and at least
one mod have been fairly active while all this is going on, I'm sure it's all
being handled according to plan!

Fawstin still posts and the thread remains un-nuked. If this is a plan,
forgive me for being less than impressed by it.

Cheers

Jim

Anywho, the conversation between Zaki and Knut has been terrific and interesting.

Thanks.  As I've mentioned several times, I've legitimately enjoyed reading Knut's thoughtful posts on this subject.  I don't necessarily agree with everything he says, but I appreciate his taking the time to give us his perspective.

I'm not sure what the "pigotry" comment is about but I was wondering - is THE INFIDEL a superhero story about The Pigman, or is it a realistic story about a former Muslim who creates an imaginary superhero called the Pigman?

Who can name the poster who first mentioned the words 'The Infidel' on this thread?

And Mike M, get with it.

Zaki did, I was going to point that out.

What do you mean get with it?  Why wouldn't you just answer that question?  I'm not being sarcastic or deliberately obtuse.  All this time I thought The Infidel was a superhero story about the Pigman, but I just read on your site that it's about a former Muslim creates the Pigman comic book.

A few things.

While I find the Pigman stuff crude, the rest of Bosch's art, as much as I've seen of it, looks okay. Fairly slick,  classic cartooning style. Nothing that appeals to me personally, but I'd hardly call it amateurish. In fact I'd say it's above average (for a professional) in some respects. Let's let the artwork speak for itself.

I disagree with him on a lot of things, but I do not think his artwork should be unfairly judged.

And the Alan Moore thread was moving towards a very dark place when I last posted there. It was quickly turning into a "Let's hate on Alan Moore" thread. I don't think I was blameless myself, as I certainly voiced some very critical things about Moore. It is possible that it escalated later.

And just a week earlier in a "Frank Miller's Spirit" thread similar harsh language was aimed at Miller for what many saw as a disrespectful treatment of Will Eisner's character and "universe".  Mindful of Frank Miller's infamous cartoon of Marvel digging up Elektra's corpse, I even made an extremely crude, tasteless and disrespectful comment about the violation of corpses.

Both these threads were wiped. I think it safe to say that the extreme negative remarks about other comic book creators were the probable cause. There's a line between reasonable criticism and ad hominem attacks on professionals, and if we cross it, I think it's fair that the thread gets shut down.  It is a different matter when people are here to argue their case.

As for this thread? Compared to some religion threads it's positively civil.

There's your answer, Mike M. And if you care to learn more, read what I've said about it on my site, in radio interviews, etc. But you ain't heard or seen nothing yet when the book hits.

I think the distinction matters because if you're telling the story of the creation of an imaginary comic book superhero, any crassness/bad taste/unrealistic elements could just be explained as being deliberate choices on your part to emphasize the talent level/intelligence/emotional baggage of your cartoonist character.

"...twin brothers whose Muslim background comes to the forefront of their lives on 9/11. One responds by creating a counter-jihad superhero comic book called PIGMAN..."
