Hard to imagine a Dazzler movie in 2026. She is so much of her time. How much of the original character could translate to the 21st Century.

Not that faithful adaptation is high on Hollywood’s to do list.

(If a movie happens I wonder if I will get money as one of her “creators”? That would almost make that ordeal worth it.)

She wouldn’t have to be “Disco” Dazzler. She could be patterned after
someone like Taylor Swift or something.

Not gonna lie... I would love to see a full-on disco DAZZLER film, set in 1979, with the make-up, rollerskates, silver lycra costume and all.  With a killer late-'70s soundtrack.  I mean, in theory, it could work... fun and campy, if they struck just the right tone and approach.

Much as I am worn out by grim and glum superheroes, I do not want to see the word “campy” drift anywhere near the conversation!

I do think a viable (and often preferable) solution, if a character is of a specific time and place, *is* to stick it in that era. If the character works timelessly (e.g. Spider-Man or Batman), great. If putting them in a modern context requires major overhauls or narrative contortions, maybe making it a period piece is the way to go.

I do wonder if James Bond films would be better off left in a post-WWII, Cold War milieu. And Dazzler really might be one worth embracing all the disco trappings.

At the same time, I am not a fan of Dazzler. I think she can work, but it requires extra heavy lifting from the creative team to do so, which is not a ringing endorsement of the character.

I don't recall. How did Dazzler come to be.

I recently read the original Dazzler series for the first time and aside from some decent art here and there, the character was basically unlikeable. When she eventually joined the X-Men it felt like she was just there, almost background noise. This would be one of the few times I would have no issue with Disney deviating from the source material if they decided to feature her in a series or movie.

For those who don’t know the backstory, Dazzler was created basically as a stunt—Disco was HUGE—and forced on CC and me in the middle of the Kitty Pryde introduction. A two part story became three.

She was, of course, a stupid character. Comics are a visual medium, and characters based on sound rarely work well.

To add to the annoyance, there are to this day, fans who think CC and I created the character.
