There's no way to ask without sounding snarky, so I'll
just go ahead - is this the first page of the thread

I must be on this forum for too long, because I wanted to say pretty much the exact same thing - using the term "matter of fact" instead of "casually".
I had the same reaction to the Savage Land.
Side note: I thought I remember reading that the Savage Land was _under_ Antarctica, which I don't get since there's sunlight. So I just Googled "The Savage Land under Antarctica". The very first two images that show up are a double-page spread from XMHY and one from Alan Davis. Good company to be in! |

The Savage Land is in a deep valley--quite an extensive one--that is below the level of the ice, but not under it. It is shielded by a constant cloud cover.

Without any consultation with me, this was changed to "on"--which makes perfect sense, right?)* _________________________ * Here we see one of my greatest fears should I return to Marvel. Saw this over at CAF, and then dug up a better image at Heritage. Laughed when I saw that it "only" sold for $5,175.00 in May 2005. |

but I do know that whenever I read a John Byrne comic, I
feel most comfortable, like this is the way comics
should read. Regardless, John's comics are clearly the
default setting for me and my mind.

And since I am not actually suggesting a title and I'm
not making a Barry Smith joke, I guess we could call
this series X-Men: Black With Stars.

 1. Did you know that your visuals in Uncanny 108 - 143 and the in text narration of AF establish a fairly concrete timeline for the Marvel Universe?  Based on the visuals and text, Jean joins the X-Men 17 years ago (7 years pass from X-Men #1 to X-men 137 and of that, Jean spends a year and a half as Phoenix)
 2.  If Marvel fell in love with you and gave you complete control over the X-universe, and you were so inclined, what would be your ultimate dream book to produce in the current X-universe?

I'm not aware of Marvel ways of dealing with books like this but isn't it possible for you to have complete control of the storyline and concepts you create for "Elsewhen" as this series would be completely outside the current X-Books storyline? By the way, thank you so much for sharing these wonderful pages!

 | •• Outside the current X-Books this may be, but these are still characters owned by a big, powerful corporation. They don't want them messed up. There's also the experience I've had of editors assuming they know more about the characters than I do--which would be extremely dangerous on a book like this. On HIDDEN YEARS there were editorial screw ups even tho I was referencing existing material. Here, I will be MAKING IT UP, so plenty of opportunities for various gnomes to "fix" stuff. The truly annoying part, as I have noted, is that these gaffs most often happen because nobody bothers to pick up the phone. Imagine this simple exchange: Editor: John, you've got Sauron referring to himself as having shared a lab with Xavier. But Magneto is in the panel, so I guess you meant that dialog to be his, right?Me: It was established in his first appearance that Sauron was once Xavier's lab partner. Chris added Magneto to the equation decades later. ED: Oh, I didn't know that! See? Simple. Yet didn't happen, and the scene was messed up.
