One would imagine that to draw Fabulous-man smashing a Skrallillion Space frigate into junk would be a tad easier than drawing a busy subway station, mostly due to expectation. The viewer is like to have seen the latter many times and in a great position to judge and perhaps has less hard facts to go on with the former.•• This points also to why the dinosaurs in JURASSIC PARK looked so good, while the elephants in JUMANJI didn't. We know what elephants look like!

I really like that subway platform page, too. The variation of camera angles, the placement of shadows, the knowing and sure-handed representation of cars and trains and Prof. X's cool wheelchair. Little touches like the grass growing thru the tracks and the clouds and the metal tower. It's pure Byrne (and a bit of a Michael Golden vibe in the sleek, curvy lines of the cars in the last panel and maybe Prof. X's face in panel two.) Just lovely stuff.

Just focussing on this page again (unsurprisingly, as it's in front of my eyes), there's a whole lot of real world detail that's worth mentioning. Not just the station (the wooden bench and the detail above the waiting room door are very nice), but things like Kitty's handbag and the shoulder-bag that Willie's lugging and the drapery and shadows of Kitty's clothes in the third panel.

(And yes I did once exit I-684 just so I could drive through Salem Center, why do you ask?)

I honestly didn’t know Salem Center was a real town. It sounds so Claremont! I used New Canaan CT as my main “model”.Maybe I should have used East Erbun NY.

I just checked Google Maps and I'm learning for the first time that there really is a 1407 Graymalkin Lane right there - LINK.
Claremont may have been the one to choose the town, though. I recall a reference to the mansion being in Scarsdale during the original team's run.
