I think the JB/Terry Austin collaboration from IDW should be new issues of POPEYE.  JB nailed the characters on the recent trade cover, and Terry is a fan.  I think the Popeye characters would be a really fun collaboration, and how great would it be for JB to write this style of comedy??  And just to bring balance to the universe, I think having the X-Men appear in the background of each issue should be a series requirement!

As far as the X-Men Artist Edition, I vote for a collection of pages over the entire run.  I find it difficult to "fall into" the story when reading the artist's editions - I don't read them like I read comic books.  I like them as art books, and would prefer a selection from over the whole run.

Doom at that size is certainly not to be trifled with. Looking forward to
cracking open this book!

Any plans for either Perez of Garcia-Lopez Artist Editions?

Hey, thanks, Aaron.

As to AAs of either Wrightson's Swamp Thing or anything with George Perez, they're definitely both atop my personal wish list. Swamp Thing pages are tough to track down in full stories. But if DC gets to a point of letting us do DCU titles in this format, we definitely have some good plans in store.

Oops... I meant "or Garcia-Lopez". I'd love to see a volume of his
original artwork reproduced.

My vote would be for the HULK/BATMAN crossover. While I'm so glad IDW is doing these, I would hate to think about the sleepless nights trying to put them together. After all, this isn't just about getting Marvel, or at some point hopefully DC approval. You also have to track down the original artwork. These works are 25-50 years old in most cases.

Chris, has it ever gotten down to, "Alright, this guy has this page, and this guy has these two pages. That guy has that page and that page, but not the one in between them."?

This is all Scott Dunbier's burden to bear on this end, but that's definitely been the case. Largely, he deals with and already knows many people who own full stories, but every now and then, it can be a big search for this page or that cover. Or, like in the case of the Eisner Spirit book, stories that he was assured were coming then not ever materializing, so the hunt was on for replacement pages.

Luckily, like I say, Scott's decades of art dealing and connections give him an advantage in this regard that pretty much no one else in comics has. A powerful ally is he.

Hmmm... Guess that's currently a "no" on a JGL volume.

Nothing is a "no," but like I say before, sometimes I either can't answer for fear of giving a comic gossip site information that is misconstrued or misreported, or just nothing we're ready to talk about.

In this case, there's no planned Garcia-Lopez book, largely because we're not currently able to do DCU books. And a crossover book seems fraught with all kinds of peril. But you never know--Marvel, and DC, with the Spirit and Mad books, have been great to work with and to allow us to do the books we've done. We're all looking to expand those relationships further so you never know. I love Jose's stuff, and I know Scott does, too. It remains to be seen if we could ever find the pages and could make that happen. It's also not the easiest thing because he did great work here and there but not too many long, definitive runs on titles in the same way as John Romita's Spider-Man, JB's FF or even Mazzucchelli's DD.

But like I say, me not answering flat out here means I have to be wary of what I say until any particular book is finalized or not, nothing more than that.

Got it. Sorry if my response came across as snarky.

Hi Chris!

Hope you've had a great day today...  many happy returns! Just a quick question re: the Artist Editions... do you have any plans to release a Sal Buscema Hulk, or a John Buscema Conan edition? No worries if you can't say... but those would be two awesome books! I'd especially love to see Sal's work collected where he was inked by Ernie Chan, or Gerry Talaoc. :)
