Hope you've had a great day today...  many happy returns! Just a quick question re: the Artist Editions... do you have any plans to release a Sal Buscema Hulk, or a John Buscema Conan edition? No worries if you can't say... but those would be two awesome books! I'd especially love to see Sal's work collected where he was inked by Ernie Chan, or Gerry Talaoc. :)

=====

Those aren't on the current slate, anyway, but I know that something involving a Buscema brother is in the works.

Although I'd rather do a Hulk book with just Sal inking himself over pages where he was inked by Chan, Talaoc, or Joe Staton. And, you know, I'd make it a Rom book...*

*Note to Bleeding Cool: this is not an announcement

I talked to Sal recently about the various inkers he's worked with, and he definitely liked people like Mike Esposito, who kept to Sal's lines more than an artist like Chan or Talaoc, who brought in a lot of their own style. He was never a big fan of Ian Akin & Brian Garvey in Rom, for instance, since they made the art so much their own. Although he did say how much he respected Talaoc as an artist and inker. (But really, would you rather see an Artist's Edition with, say, those "Puffball Collective" Hulk stories by he and Talaoc or the earlier Sal stories where he inked himself in stories where Hulk fought the Surfer and other such things? Can't go wrong either way, I suppose.)

The one exception to the "bringing in their own style" rule remains, of course, the great Joe Sinnott. Sal loved what he did on his pages, and so did I.

Thanks Chris... I can understand how you'd rather publish something that stays truer to Sal's original pencils (I read in TwoMorrows Publishing's Sal Buscema: Comics' Fast and Furious Artist that he didn't like inkers who overpowered his work, much like his brother John). I just love those issues inked by Ernie Chan especially... but I'd go for any book drawn by Sal or John. They are two of my all-time favourite artists :)

Dare I ask if there's a chance of a Jack Kirby one? (hides!)

Well, you gotta know The King is at the top of our wish list, just like the rest of the world's, so if there's ever any proper chance to showcase any of his work in this format, we will.

Not at all! I understand how difficult it must be to put these books together in the first place!

Thanks for answering the questions... keep up the good work at the IDW Bullpen ;)

Hi, Chris!

Has any thought been given to doing anything with Wendy Pini's ELFQUEST
work?

We've spoken in the past but Richard and Wendy have other plans for that title.

Hi Chris,

Are there any future original art editions in the works featuring work by Neal Adams or Barry Windsor-Smith?  Thanks.

We did a Neal Adams story as an Artist's Edition Portfolio already. Barry, more of a longshot. I'd love see the originals of his Fanfare 15 story, or those X-Men issues he did, or just all of Weapon X.

Yep, got that "Thrillkill" set; thanks.  I, and many others, would pay a pretty penny for something like Adams' original X-Men and Avengers runs.  There would be interest, I would think, in Paul Smith's X-Men run as well...as much as there was in Mazzuchelli's Daredevil edition.

Marvel, and DC, with the Spirit and Mad books, have been great to
work with and to allow us to do the books we've done. We're all
looking to expand those relationships further so you never know.
=========
Here's hoping for the future. Although I must admit, I'd love to see a
joint venture between IDW and DYNAMITE ENTERTAINMENT just so
your group of creators could play with there characters. Seeing JB
draw the Lone Ranger would be a great bit of wish fulfillment.
Plus crossing there pulp characters with The Rocketeer would make
for a heck of a read.

Besides, it's my opinion they kinda botched there HC book of the Cary
Bates/Russ Heath Lone Ranger Newspaper Strip Collection. You guys
have to fix this...please?!
