(If I'm wrong about JB or CC's viewpoint, someone please clarify. Thanks!)

The most powerful mutant mind on Earth...I miss that. Yes, whenever it is ELSEWHEN takes place, it's before the Great Tearing Down, when uncontrolled fanboys took over Marvel and began twisting everything to fit the notions they'd been cooking in their brains since they were, like, 12. (PS screw Lee and Kirby and Ditko) (PPS canonize Kirby but pretty much ignore Ditko)

I like Xavier being the most powerful telepath. When new telepaths are introduced, it seems there's always some variation on "he's even more powerful than Professor X!" ...and that gets really boring.
Let Charles be the best at his game, okay, creators?

JB upheld Jean as a moral anchor for the chaotic and primal Phoenix, whereas it seems Chris Claremont thought Jean's base humanity corrupted the Phoenix. Phoenix was supposed to be a recurring VILLAIN, but once we/I decided to kill her, Chris started rebuilding the whole thing so that Phoenix was GOOD and had always been GOOD, despite, you know, THIS:

For John, once upon a time, in the Art of John Byrne, you said something to the effect that Phoenix was nothing compared to Galactus. Do you still feel that way?

In light of that, it's interesting that Galactus "eats" life-bearning planets and Phoenix "eats" stars.
Perhaps the subtle and, relatively, rare power of life-itself might be more powerful than the explosive power of stars.
...or not.
Very cool to think about cosmic powers dwarfing each other at any rate. "Infinity is not quite infinity when you put it next to a bigger infinity..."

Remember, too, that Galactus has a porpose in the Universe, while Phoenix is just pure, destructive force.

Although we've never seen Phoenix and Galactus fight (except in maybe a WHAT IF? long ago?), Phoenix has never been described as a "fundamental" part of the universe the way Galactus has. The Phoenix is a powerful destructive force, true, but there are probably quite a few of those loose in the universe... while there is only one Galactus.

And it baffles me when creators choose to either forget, overlook, or retroactively "fix" a character (as CC seems to have with Phoenix and as George Lucas did with his prequel trilogy).
Are they unaware of their own story?

To ease the pain, it occurs to me that I should point out, as I have before, that the "dangling Monday" at the end of this month will mean a wait of 11 days before I can resume First Monday posting in September. (September!!)I'll try to remember to post a few sneekpeeks as your methadone!
