Self-deporting in the current context is a much different thing than emigration. It's the depressing, nutrient-free carrot to the stick that is the stick of deportation to a squalid prison in Central America.

While Canadians are making a concerted effort not to visit the US for vacations until Trump’s tariffs, and threats of tariffs, are resolved, there was a news story recently that two major international conferences in Vancouver BC were cancelled and moved to the US. The organizers tried to portray this as promoting US venues. In private, the organizers heard from many American prospective attendees who, because they were not born in the US, did not want to leave the US and have to try to come back into the US under the present climate.
