I used to deal with that, but eventually bought a large bed scanner. It's large enough to scan most sizes I work with.

Yeah, I figure I'll have to break down and purchase one. The good thing is that they've come way down in price from a few years ago.

 I woke up one night thinking about this page to ink. I like how itturned out but had kind of an issue with splicing it together - I made an attempt to make it look a bit more cohesive. I've always loved John Byrne's tiny figures in the background - they always look so natural and well formed. (heck of a challenge to ink though!)

Really well done. All that detail in the Thor captures a gravitas the character deserves. You’ve done an excellent job of inking all the details. The little bits of plants and detritus in these sweeping panels are so important and yet take a fair amount of concentration to get right. Which you have done. I agree that the little figures are natural and well formed, I’ve always been in awe of them. I’ve been inking some pages lately and have been challenged by the tiny figures as well.

To me the inking on Thor is also reminiscent of the early Avenger's issues Mr. Byrne drew (inked by Dan Green, I had to look that up). Nice job!

Excellent work by McKay and Wills!
I used to have a photocopier with a huge scan surface, yet it's always been a challenge to find anything much beyond 8 1/2 x 11" for PC plug-in! I'd pretty much given up even before arthritis started keeping me from even basic satisfaction with artwork.

Hey, Paul, you inked over the top pointer on the THOR balloon. You’re also still tending toward a sameness in line weight—something that contributes to making those little figures hard to ink. You’ve got to train yourself to think in layers. The “deeper” into the image you go, the thinner your line should be. It’s almost as if the lines are physical objects, and the “further away” they are, the “smaller” they seem.

Thanks! These tips really help and make it much easier to grasp the science of inking - especially when described in a way I can understand. I should also push myself to use multiple tools (especially brushes). Can't wait to get to work on the next one!This forum is so helpful for artists/inkers to improve their craft!
