Not sure what i really think about this practice,which is becoming more evident these days.pencil page by Andie Tong for the UK Marvel Spectacular Spider-Man comic, followed by inks again by Andie on a blue line copy.It does mean 2 pages for the price of one tho.

I was just messing around on eBay last night and picked these up on the cheap from Dan Green's art dealer. A Cable page by John Romita Jr. and Dan Green and a Wolverine by John Buscema and Dan Green. I got sniped at the last second for a Hulk Annual page by John Romita Sr. and Dan Green. Two out of three aint bad.

Thanks, Gerry. I think Dan's Dr. Strange was beautiful. I do like your new piece. I've noticed Dave Gibbons currently inks his pencils on a separate page as well.

why are they doing that tho?
is it purely to preserve the pencils? i wonder if it means the price of a particular page will be dearer now?

I could understand if someone else was inking and you wanted to keep the pencils. Not being an artist, I don't see the benefit of inking over a blue line copy of your own pencils. Seems like a little more work. Especially on your guy, Andie Tong's piece. The pencils are fully rendered. I know Gibbons leaves his pencils loose and adds more in the inking process.

They had a few other pages from JRJr's Cable on eBay last night, but I thought this one was the most powerful to look at. I feel these types of pages showcase an artists talent even more than an action posed splash page. I look forward to seeing both these in person.

I was going to ask the same thing.... why ink your own stuff on a blue line page? I get the ftp it in and let the inker download it, but why your own work? The only answer I can come up with is the "two pieces of art to sell"
I still wonder about the collecting ramifications of this.... which one is really the "original art?" I know John has mention that with his duoshade work on Namor when he was copying the inks to the duoshade that they were BOTH originals and sold as a set from Jim, but what about the different combos, such as the Wieringo/Kesel FF's?
Mike's pencils are HIS original art.... but to be fair, they were never printed. Aren't the boards with Karl's inks really the original art? Or maybe there needs to be a new term.... production art? I don't know?
for me, the ability to get BOTH the uninked pencil art AND the final inked version is a collectors dream, and nightmare!!!
I go out of my way to dig up old pencil xeroxes, I love them... anybody who wants to trade or just wants some copies, let me know!

Right. And what happens when artists don't sell them as sets but divide and sell them separately. Very interesting.
