Why in the world would SCOTUS try and find a way to dethrone him?
They’re the ones that said he can do anything he wants and it’s legal.
SCOTUS has no intentions for him to go anywhere other than King For Life.

Not that this has a high likelihood, but my wife observes that Roberts is a
narcissistic power mad ass just like Trump and his decision to deify Trump
has the potential to put these two nut-jobs into a destructive power-
struggle. It’s already happening, but we are waiting for the shoe to drop
about whether Roberts is an “alpha” or “beta” in MAGA world.

Trump is the only shoe, and he's fully dropped. MAGA is only interested in the Unitary Executive, and really only interested in that just so long as it's Trump.

@Mark: to be clear, it doesn't matter what the court rules. If Roberts does decide to rule against Trump in something, Trump will defy it. He wants that Constitutional crisis to fully cement his authority.
That's the current strategy - picture Heath Ledger in full Joker regalia, standing in front of the on-coming truck, saying "I want you to do it, I WANT you to do it.".

@Dave- how will it cement Trump’s power if he has to go to war with the
Supreme Court?
If power-hungry narcissist Justice Roberts decides he prefers rule of law to
boot-licking then what is the upside for Trump in a constitutional crisis?
Some say this is too soon politically for him to throw the courts in the
shitter. He definitely wants to do it, but won’t it be more successful in year
four than in month four?

It's not about politics or popularity. It'll cement his power because regardless of what the Court rules, the Court itself is powerless. Those rulings would be carried out by the Department of Justice, which is fully under Trump's control.

Congress won't do anything. MAGA love him no matter what he does, and the spineless members of the GOP far outnumber the rest.
The DOJ won't do anything.
Hopefully the justice will be a Democrat takes the White House next, then SCOTUS decides to wipe the floor with Trump.
