The amount of detail John Byrne puts into these panels is remarkable. We definitely get our money's worth!

Man, you are really working your way through that first issue, Paul!

Good work. The only nitpick I have is Colossus' face in that most recent page -- doesn't seem to tally up closely enough with the pencils. Nice stuff as a whole.

Thanks Peter! I still have much to improve on - one of the things is when the characters are drawn small, I have to really concentrate on getting it right!

It took me a long time to understand why JB put certain lines in certain places and as I (hopefully) progress at inking, I find myself thinking, 'Oh - That's why it's there!'

I took a small break to work on some other projects but that gave me some perspective to look back and see what I may be doing wrong and what I may be doing right.
I am still learning through JB's art - the subtleties of the way the clouds are drawn vs the way dust is drawn vs the way jet engine exhaust is drawn. Man! These are things I never realized are done slightly different until I start inking them.

Paul, I like some of the detail you've added, but be careful not to go against the penciller's intent.

JB draws Cyclops with one red eye for a reason. If he wanted there to be two glowing eyes in the visor, he would do it, I'm sure (it's not beyond his abilities!).

Cyclops is called Cyclops because of his visor giving him the appearance of one eye, cyclopean style. It doesn't make sense to work against that, especially if the penciller has intentionally avoided that pitfall.

Cue posts of Kirby and Cockrum drawing Cyke with visible eyes. And me too, at first, dutifully following Dave’s lead.

But it’s still wrong.

Er, yeah...that's what I was doing...homaging early Jack Kirby, Dave Cockrum and John Byrne. That's the ticket....
Just for fun let me see without the 'eyes'. Yup, I agree it does look better(:

It is better!

And good work as a whole, Paul. It's a nice balance of clean lines and texture details.
