I dig the Superman kisser. It may seem angry, but it fits more with the original 1930s Superman, who was interested in nothing but Justice before Lois came along. •• That pretty much sums up my problem with it. It's a good representation of the original Superman -- with the S emblem from about thirty years later. Kind of like if Disney put out a Mickey Mouse statue that was the "Tugboat Willie" vintage wearing the red shorts and yellow shoes.

To me, it seems 'off' in the same two ways that bother me about nearly everything Alex Ross paints: 1. Looks a little too ...'old' to be the 'real' Superman. I'd peg that bust as someone at least 40. 2. Similarly, the face looks more like a specific person, dressed up as Superman, rather than just 'Superman', if you know what I mean.

Years ago, back when I was in College, a friend told me a probably apocryphal story. He said he knew a guy who worked in the design department of one of the major automobile manufacturers, in Detroit, and that they had a "rule" about time usage in designing cars. And backwards from what you might think.According to this story, a certain amount of time was allotted to the designing of each new car, and the designers were required to use ALL of it. Which meant if they came up with a perfect design in 85% of the allotted time, they had to keep tinkering with it until the whole time was used up. Like I said, this is surely an apocryphal story, but I think of it whenever I see something like that Galactus statue. Apparently, somebody thinks Jack Kirby only used 85% of the time. . .

Sideshow Collectibles have released their Batman Premium Format statue and has put out sneak peaks for Superman and Green Lantern.
They're not perfect, but I won't be able to resist them.

*** No, I have not. I'm guessing the use of the cherry in those photos is a tip of the hat to that show?

At 33" high, I'm pretty sure that is an apple being used as a scale reference.
