James? I know that's his name, but to me he will always be Mac...•• James MacDonald Hudson. Two bays and a prime minister. On the matter of names that don't sound quite right -- a while back I was reading a Sarah Vowell essay about Canada (apparently, she's a big fan of my former home and non-native land), and I was brought briefly to a dead stop when she mentioned "John MacDonald". After a moment, I realized she meant Sir John A. MacDonald, first prime minister of the Dominion of Canada. North of the 49th Parallel, at least when I was growing up there, he was usually referred to by full name and title or, when being more familiar, "Sir John A." For a frame of reference, American forum members can imagine variants of Presidential names that might give you a momentary hesitation -- like if John F. Kennedy was maybe called "J. Kennedy", or just "J.F."
