The DC Direct 2012 offerings are listed here.

There's not much for me there.  I like few of the Batman B&W statues (Cooke and Jock).  The next Catwoman statue in the Cover Girls line looks like it could be good.  The 1:4 Catwoman museum quality statue is something I'll think about.  I'll be picking up the animated Green Lantern statue.  The Superman vs. Batman from The Dark Night Returns could be good too.

I'll be passing on all the nuDCU stuff.  I don't like the 1:4 Batman museum quality statue, I wasn't a fan of that costume in the short time it was in the comics and never liked the external "bat cup".  That said, the base is nicer than the previous DC Direct museum quality statue and better than the up coming premium formant Batman statue from Sideshow.

What the--? Is that an armored codpiece?

I mean, it makes perfect sense, but still...

Nearly the same picture I posted before, but with a major addition that fills in the missing link.

Hope that's a bad bit of Photoshopping. The Thing is MUCH too large for the vintage of the others.

Seriously? My spellchecker recognizes "photoshopping" but not "superhero"?

Better shot of the Cover Girls catalog pages. I'm both annoyed and relieved that DC Direct is following Kotobukiya in switching from the plain bases to the decorative ones. Annoyed because I don't like them; relieved because I can stop collecting the line. Plus, it looks like they are no longer exclusively designed by Adam Hughes. I like the Jim Lee Catwoman statue design, but there is not enough differentiating it from the previous Catwoman statue costume-wise to warrant getting it.

I am holding out hope, however, that since they are redoing characters and AH is the cover artist for the current Batgirl series, DC Direct will do another Batgirl statue based on one of his covers. Batgirl was my only disappointment in the current Cover Girls series.

Looks like a solid likeness! Way better than the Kirk bust. Khan also looks pretty sweet.

There's just so much about Shatner's face that frustrates the artist! That broad "V" shape on his forehead, for instance. Almost impossible to capture, yet if it's not there, it's not Shatner!

The Spock "bust" does look pretty good, as does Khan -- tho I wish they had done the "Space Seed" version. In the movie form, he looks a little too much like Cutter, from ELFQUEST!

That Kirk isn't terrible.  It's better than most likenesses of Shatner I have seen, at least -- which usually leave me wondering why someone put Lee Majors in a Star Trek uniform.

It would be neat to have a "Space Seed" bust to set alongside the TWOK version.

I do have a fondness for the "wild" look of TWOK Khan. One advantage of Montalban's aging was the increased prominance of his nasolabial folds, which allowed for Khan to have a really great, intimidating scowl in the movie. I felt you captured this very well in his WHO'S WHO entry.

I was pleasantly surprised to see the "Space Seed" era Art Asylum Khan figure a few years back, as well as the more recent Nu-Mego version.

And I've noted before, Nimoy/Spock has some pretty definable features for an artist to lock onto--the hair, the ears, the nose, the jaw, the eyebrows and slightly slanty eyes, etc.

Shatner/Kirk's face is so...I dunno, generic. Not quite square-jawed, small bridge of the nose, small, generic-looking ears. The distinctive "energy" of his face really does come from his eyes and brow, which as you say, is probably hard to capture.

I can't recall seeing a sculpt of Kirk that's ever really come very close to looking like Shatner!

I get the impression that you had an easier time drawing Spock in CREW than you did Kirk in FRONTIER DOCTOR and the ROMULANS trade. Did you rely on much reference for Nimoy's likeness? Was it fairly easy to get a "feel" for him?
