Minor point, but Aurora and Northstar are meant to have shiny BLACK hair. |

It's part of the comic book language that not everyone seems to be able to read. That's the same sort of misinterpretation that results in Superman having blue hair and Spiderman's costume going from red and black to red and blue.

It’s a source of some consternation for me, that as a five year old starting to read superhero comics I understood instinctively that Superman did not have blue hair, yet there are adult fans today who will argue that he does.

Calls to mind a post I wanted to start a couple of weeks ago (I have permissions restrictions, apparently) called, "Top Ten Comic Convention(al) Pet Peeves", of which there would have been two categories: the limitations of the medium itself vs that which seem to be an idiosyncrasy of the creators. I believe Aurora and Northstar's silver/black hair interpretation falls under the former, while for me, needless and excessive crosshatching falls under the latter.

For me it's an issue of not actually having seen an Alpha Flight comic since I was fifteen and just running with my own assumption from the time. I'd like to think that if I really looked at it as an adult I would have grokked the hair color - but, yeah, I was probably tripped up at the time by the common black hair = blue highlights thing and just took it for granted that no color in the highlight = silver hair.

I can't recall whether I fully grokked it was black hair, though I think I correctly read Aurora's hair as black and may not have thought too much about it with regard to Northstar. I do know that the Ditko version in Machine Man looked very, very wrong to me.

Yeah, the mirror image aspect must have escaped Mr Ditko. It's a nice drawing of Aurora in that image in some ways, with a pleasing economy of line, but the hair is so wrong.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think Steve Difko was one those who draws Sasquatch right.

One of the best Non-Byrne Alpha Flight renderings has to be from Phil Jiminez. He even got Guardan's helmet right.

Aside: looks like George W. Bush and Nixon on the left, there. Bush definitely has a very Ditko-y face in real life.

“…four ton hydraulic press…”This is of concern to someone who once picked up and threw a full sized commercial jetliner—against the thrust of its engines.
