I wish Kamala's first major interview since becoming the nominee had not been paired with Walz. This choice is disappointing if for nothing else than now she's allowed herself to be easily and instantly criticized as needing the "shielding" of a "crutch" and a "chaperone" from "tough questions." (All quotes from the WSJ.)

I hope she comes out vigorously after this to hold her own press conferences and interviews, at least some few solo ventures before the debate on 9/10 (if it happens).

She should definitely get more solo focus, but every issue is somebody's first and I'm guessing a lot of people haven't "met" Walz yet.

Right, let's not micro-manage too much our backseat driving of this very unusual set of circumstances for this campaign. It's abbreviated in terms of rollout, and it just may be that they want to contrast the harmony of this ticket with that of their opponent at every opportunity as it may prove to carry more appeal than just her on her own. Not because she can't carry it, but from a strategy standpoint, while she is new as the candidate, she is known in general at the same time. Walz is brand new to the national stage, and you can't fault them for trying to pimp their genuine chemistry for all that it is worth.

Trumf’s Arlington visit has earned him a “stiff rebuke” from the Army.

Oh, if only he lost the military…!

As I said above, Trump's real skill is to find a wedge and work it; to his advantage in this case, the ever-present divide between enlisted men and brass.  If anything, it'd be perceived as thumbing his nose at military protocol and would be (largely) viewed as a plus.

You can't ever say the man doesn't know his audience.

You believe enlisted men would fall in line behind him calling their fallen comrades “losers”? Standing over a grave with a sappy grin and that half-assed thumbs up of his?

Eight years ago it would have sounded like bad science fiction to me. But I have to go by what the evidence has shown in the intervening years.  This isn’t anything new from him - merely an escalation of existing behaviors. I guess his base are like drug addicts in that way; they need ever more extreme doses of outrageous shit from him .

They already have fallen in line with Trump.  If current and former members of the military had an ounce of integrity, they all would have sworn off Trump when they saw photos of classified files in his bathroom.  They all know if they did that, they would be arrested and thrown in solitary confinement while the DOJ figured out what they shared and to whom.

That thumbs up at the fallen soldier grave site was Trump's fuck you to the armed forces.

But he still has 70+ million voters backing him.

Sad state of America........

A co-worker served on active duty in the Army during Trump's administration (I retired from the Army two weeks before Trump's election win). He assured me that Trump's military support is not monolithic, especially among officers.

The husband of a friend is former Navy. He voted for Trumf.

He also denies the moon landing.

I just need to learn he’s a flat earther to have a trifecta.

My wife's son-in-law and her two grandsons are all former Navy.  All very hardcore MAGA. They love him because they think he's only calling the Army "suckers and losers".

There is absolutely no reasoning with people like that.  To them, facts are a minor inconvenience.
