Apparently, we have put tariffs on trade with two uninhabited islands.

I guess those penguins hate our freedom or something.

I'm reading some interesting things about that tariff chart
he held up yesterday.
The maths apparently works out as trade deficit and not
tariffs charged.

So what he did was look at sales from those countries to
the USA and USA sales to those countries. The quoted figure
is the difference between those numbers. Nothing to do with
tariff levels at all.

Which seems to have been his confused messaging all along.

  • U.S. Stock Futures Tumble After Trump’s Tariff Blitz
  • Stock futures fell sharply, led by tech stocks, the dollar weakened to its lowest level of the year and oil prices slid as the “Liberation Day” tariff plan reverberated around markets.
  • Analysis: Tariffs Aimed to Boost the Dollar. The Opposite Happened.
  • Cars Were Already Unaffordable Before Tariffs
  • Tariffs Usher In an Uncertain New Era
  • Trump’s announcement stunned markets. It could also push countries—including the U.S.—to the brink of recession.
Scary to be in this blitz and tumble era (and, no, not just economically).

A dispassionate and honest question: do you think the U.S. President knows what he is doing? I mean, is there some logic that can be reasonable, even if you disagree with it?

Depends.
Is his aim to destabilise and start wars? Then he's doing a
bang up job.
The opening crawl to the Phantom Menace hits differently in
2025.

This is a must read:

Normally, it would be behind a paywall.  For a limited time, it is not.  THIS is what cutting the Department of Education down to the studs really means.  THIS is what eliminating DEI is all about. THIS is why Kennedy hiring an anti-vaxxer to conduct a “study” into the long debunked link between autism and vaccines is absolutely absurd. THIS is how it will affect the hard won rights of the disabled who not that long ago were marginalized, institutionalized and left to rot.

THIS will be the enduring legacy of this terrible, rotten, evil administration from its head and to all those that enable it, trickling down to the people who voted this monster in to those that speak no opposition to it.

I wonder what the tariffs are supposed to distract us from?

I believe this is the question to ask and I believe too many people don't like the obvious answer.

The things he is doing are being announced and repudiated in real time. He does them anyway, having the obvious and expected results.

People conclude: "He must not know what he's doing!"

I don't see how anyone can believe that.

He has always been and has never once not been an absolute suck-up to Putin.

Everything he's doing is exactly what Putin would want him to do if Putin could make it happen.

No one wants to officially connect these dots because the implications seem so unlikely, so conspiracy laden, so paranoid.

But everything makes sense and all of the evidence fits. Trump is doing what Putin advises to make the U.S. into Trump's Russian satellite.

What is a more reasonable conclusion?

It's almost like Putin wants the US to be in just as much squaller and disarray just like Russia.

When Trump 1.0 happened I never considered him a "idiot" since I have yet to see an idiot conman however with Trump 2.0 it's obvious he's a puppet and reading off the Project 2025 playbook knowing full well all the consequences, pretty much the "Useful Idiot" type.  He is the worst person alive and if he's not around we still have to endure 4 years of this shit because the succession of who gets to be President looks like a rogues gallery.
