Was going for a Patrick Nagel kind of thing, but the lines need to be even more even-weighted. Would probably help with some colour.

I couldn't resist trying again to capture the perspective.  This time I stayed loose and sketchy (which generally works out better for me as my line-quality is pretty poor) and closer to the source.

While I prefer the result to the previous attempt because the viewing angle is a better reproduction, but I can't say it really looks like Storm.  There are many subtleties in JB's work...worthy of hours/days of study.  I have realized that he does draw her with a very flat face (i.e. small nose) and over-large eyes with very thin eyebrows.  Her hairline is also very low at the widow's peak.  Also from this perspective the eyes are higher on the face, which is what messed me up originally.

Here's the (elegantly effortlesss) reference of Mr. Byrne's I used from Issue 24.

A final artistic observation --- it's probably a newbie mistake to have the character looking directly at the viewer.  I need to make a mental note of that since I've fallen into that trap too many times.

@Peter:  I forgot about Nagel!  He was everywhere in the 80's.  Nice job.

Thanks, Steven.

I really liked that Thorin Oakenshield portrait you did from a couple of weeks back.

JB has mentioned “shorthand” many times when speaking of comic art.
This is what Toth was a master at….the least amount of cluttered lines to
get the point across in each page/panel. So difficult.

In keeping with today's ELSEWHEN, a young Jean Grey portrait in a thousand tiny scratches.
(leaning heavily on the crutch of a Norman Rockwell sketch for reference)

Hey Joe, unsolicited feedback... I appreciate your efforts and how much you draw! It's great!

something in your last batch struck me and IO offer it as helpful constructive feedback- have you a copy of How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way? If not, I highly recommend you get it. If only for this spread and the similar one for female proportions. It's not an absolute but I find when I remember these proportions my figures come out much more satisfactory- I think your figures are all short limbed (not including the last guy with deliberately short limbs)

This must be a psychological problem with me! I am constantly trying to
short in the limbs! No joke.
