I'd be hard-pressed to pick just a handful of favorite covers out of the first 100 issues - I love pretty much every single one for various reasons - they're thumbnails of a special time in comics for me.

No Avengers #4...the list fails.

Agreed!

***

Agreed here too. Other than maybe a few issues in the 260s, which was when I discovered the Avengers, if I think of the Avengers the cover for #4 comes to mind immediately. In my mind, Cap is THE Avenger, the one who it seems should always be there no matter what the rest of the line-up looks like at a particular time. His intro issue is very, very important and it had a spectacular cover!

Including non-AVENGERS covers (and I count AVENGERS/JLA #2
amongst these) strikes me as...I dunno, wrong...? Especially when
deserving ACTUAL series covers have been left off.

Not a definitive list at all.

Imo, outside of a couple of the obvious, ones that definitely deserve mention and nomination:

The only unfortunate thing is the Hulk/Panther size problem. I'm all for the "small" Hulk instead of the steroid giant Hulk, but still.

I think it would be hard to pick 20 bad covers out of the first 300 issues of the main Avengers title.  This one's probably the goofiest, though:

And then again, maybe not Andrew!

I LOVE the Jarvis cover!

Re: the David Letterman cover: I remember really disliking that logo.
Very dull, IMO.

That Hannigan Hawkeye/Ant Man cover is one of the all-time greats (I'd love to see Top 20 All-Time Ed Hannigan covers).

Re: The cover for the last chapter of The Masters of Evil ("In Final Battle")...yeah, that was the final chapter of that epic storyline, but IMO the least dynamic cover.

I like that Jarvis cover AND the story that went with is. (One thing I did NOT like about the film version of Iron Man is the roboticization of Jarvis.)
