Glad to see that Ed Hannigan's Avengers 223 cover keep turning up on these lists. I can't remember any details of the story in that book, but that's an absolutely unforgettable cover image. I wish Marvel and DC had someone like Hannigan designing covers for them today.

Completely unforgivable not to include issue 4 and it was a cheat using the FF cover (which isn't even dominated by Avengers, I totally don't get it).

Also way too many pin-up, group shot covers that I would argue aren't very good, memorable or meaningful.

I agree that the cover to #4 should have been very high on this list. It's omission is a huge, huge error.

#4's cover has been noted, but it bothers me that Avengers vol 1 #23 is missing as well. It's just one of the finest Avengers covers ever. Very dynamic, and Kang actually looks threatening.
