That's clear, Bruce.
Christopher Alan Miller's "95 Democrats voted against the bill. I don't think
that can be blamed on the Republicans" statement just begged to be fleshed
out with the rest of the facts, that's all.
More Republicans voted against it than Democrats (34% more, for those who
want the math done) - against their own bill!

I don't know that this was a republican bill per se Al. It was a pretty bipartisan measure. It had more support in the senate than the house which should not be too surprising. What Pelosi and Reid do now will most interesting.

This wasn't a Republican bill?
Wait. Why did John McCain suspend his campaign to go to Washington then?
I thought this was what he was there trying to work on?

Wait. Why did John McCain suspend his campaign to go to Washington then? Because he thought it was deft political move? (I don't say that to criticize McCain, if Obama had done so I'd have said the same thing)
I thought this was what he was there trying to work on?
Some critics will say he derailed. Some supporters will say the same!

Unchartered waters, yes. The only thing absolutely certain is a LOT of retirement accounts are going to take MAJOR hits. My brother in law lost hundreds of thousands from his retirement account. The last 5 yrs. of monetary value. A colleague of mine has lost 4 yrs. of monetary value and things are just getting warm.
The entire business has been a very poor sell to the American people. With the greatest stumbling block being that up until a few weeks ago, the running opinion was that everything is hunky dory with our Economy. The fundamentals were strong. We weren't in a recession. The Stock Market was up. -Anyone complaining the economy was in a bad way was met were treated as 'gloom and doom' nay sayers.
I believe I got the official treatment somewhere back on this very thread... ( It seems that train of thought has gone silent of late...)
Well, we shouldn't worry. All those MBAs are very smart, highly educated, resourceful people. They will land on their feet.
Government is bad anyways. Bad. Bad. Bad.
Good MBAs. Good.

OK. It was a bipartisan bill. One that 34% more Republicans voted against
than Democrats voted against.
Are you sure it wasn't a Democrat bill then?

Not a republican bill?!?f! WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The original 3 page proposal was handed down by President Bush from a man he appointed...
I know Cheney likes to consider himself part of the executive branch or not depending on whims...but you want Bush to 'not be a Republican?'
Good Lord, the man truly is the lamest of Ducks...

I'm sure for many congresspeople, returning home to their districts asking for re-election it was a political choice.

Rich it had Bush's support, it had Paulson's support, but it also had Obama's, Chris Dodd's, Pelosi's, Barney Frank. This was as bipartisan as they get. And the vote reflected it too. Many, many republicans voted for it as well. It likely had greater republican support in the Senate.

When I say it wasn't their bill I'm saying it wasn't the House Republican's bill. They had an alternate proposal that was ignored.

In light of today's vote, and in the spirit of bipartisanship...
Screw both parties.
