as democrats we are excited he picked Palin because it does help our campaign
********
Sorry; I'm still not buying it. McCain went from being substantially behind in the polls to tied in the weeks after Palin's nomination. Despite what you may think of her qualifications for the job, it's clear she energized the GOP ticket. In particular, she attracted support from 1. Undecided women voters and 2. Social conservatives, who have always been lukewarm at best about McCain.
Democrats are (justifiably) concerned about Palin not because she'd be such an awful vice president, but because she helps the Republican ticket.
Having said that, the prospects of a McCain/Palin victory grow dimmer by the day, in my estimation. This financial crisis is shaping up to be one of the biggest economic events in U.S. history. And while I don't believe the Bush Administration (or the Clinton Administration or Congressional Democrats or the government in general) is at fault for this crisis, a Republican was at the helm when the ship went down, and that's what people will see.
It may not be fair, but that's the way it's always been, so I have no room to complain. This dynamic certainly worked in our favor when Ronald Reagan beat Jimmy Carter. I just see it working against the Republicans this time around, no matter who's running for either side.
