Of course, there's no way to know if those dire predictions are true.
We're in unchartered territory.

Oh no. Now I have this horrible sinking feeling that that statement is about
to inspire another series of four 14,000-word posts from Michael Myers
detailing how the territory is quite charted and here's exactly why none of
those dire predictions could come true...

Bruce you've articulated my fears exactly.  Funny enough so has Al.

as democrats we are excited he picked Palin because it does help our campaign

********

Sorry; I'm still not buying it. McCain went from being substantially behind in the polls to tied in the weeks after Palin's nomination. Despite what you may think of her qualifications for the job, it's clear she energized the GOP ticket. In particular, she attracted support from 1. Undecided women voters and 2. Social conservatives, who have always been lukewarm at best about McCain.

Democrats are (justifiably) concerned about Palin not because she'd be such an awful vice president, but because she helps the Republican ticket.

Having said that, the prospects of a McCain/Palin victory grow dimmer by the day, in my estimation. This financial crisis is shaping up to be one of the biggest economic events in U.S. history. And while I don't believe the Bush Administration (or the Clinton Administration or Congressional Democrats or the government in general) is at fault for this crisis, a Republican was at the helm when the ship went down, and that's what people will see.

It may not be fair, but that's the way it's always been, so I have no room to complain. This dynamic certainly worked in our favor when Ronald Reagan beat Jimmy Carter. I just see it working against the Republicans this time around, no matter who's running for either side.

I'm a registered Republican and absolutely mortified and horrified that McCain picked Palin.

As my brother said to me when I said the same thing: "She wasn't picked for you.  Your vote doesn't count!"

Bailout rejected

**********

Wow! This may have restored my faith in government!

The bailout opponents were an odd mix of fiscal conservative/ Libertarian types (like me) and many Democrats. Still, the American people were overwhelmingly against this proposal and maybe these elected officials listened to their constituents.

My wife is a Democrat, so she cancels out my vote, too!

(In fact, I'm just lucky that she allows me to vote....)

I'm grateful for the many things my wife allows me to do, but there is a reason why I refer to married men as "the army that has never won a battle!"
