That incident with Cheney shooting was one of the most horrible thing I've ever heard about in relation to a politician.

At least Cheney's guy lived.  But if you shoot someone, and he goes in front of the media to apologize to you for the pain he's caused, that's some pimp authority, there.

Mike O'Brien:

Check out Roger Cohen's op-ed piece on Obama in todays (4/14) New York Times.  I think you will enjoy it.

The level of Cheney's unpopularity should be judged by the fact that his popularity did not take off after the incident.  He shot a lawyer in the face -- thats usually grounds for 30 point upswing in approval ratings.

Good job missing the point. Aaron Burr was the Vice-President of the United States and killed the former Secretary of the Treasury Alexander Hamilton. Some accounts have Hamilton firing into the air deliberately missing Burr beffore Burr fired. That's a hell of a lot worse than shooting someone in a hunting accident.

Killing Hamilton was among the least of Burr's unwholesome and extra-legal activities.

I fail to see how two men mutually engaging in a duel is worse than a drunken hunter carelessly shooting an unsuspecting man in the face!?!
