Clinton's idea to push mortgage companies into risky loans.  The guy from the American Enterprise Institute that is quoted in this 1999 article gets it right:

Even Bush whose economic decisions have been at best surreal, realized that this was going to be a problem back in 2005, but once the Dems were in power those reforms (including McCain's own bill) were stymied.

Ironic that it was a Democrat-led initiative to relax rules and deregulate an industry... of course now we see the cost of that idiocy.  Emotionalism (i.e. it would be nice to increase minority home ownership, we'd all feel good) trumped practicality, and now you've got to pay the piper.

Really Joe? When I went to it, the video says "Sorry, this video is no longer available". Clear your cache and try it again.

I can still get to it. Your host country might be making YouTube censor it.

It was a dumb-ass move by the Democrats. As well as Republicans, because the repeal of the Glass-Steagall act of 1933 was bipartisan. It was done because all the politicians, most famously Bill Clinton, had drunk the free market capitalism Kool-Aid. And now we get to pay for it the rest of our lives.

To say that it was motivated by a desire to see more colored people own houses is pure bullshit. No more true than saying banks came up with subprime because they were concerned about poor people. Banks did it because they saw big fat dollar signs, and to hell with the consequences.

What, China censoring anything? I am appalled by the implication!

Actually, when they block something here (which they do a lot), they just block the entire page or have it jump to a Chinese search page. I really can't see China caring about this but they censor uTube by making go intolerably slow. Who knows.

Judging from the President's comments less than two months ago, who would have thought he was aware of it?

Bush says economy has strong foundation

Thu Jul 31, 2008 11:18am EDT

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W., Virginia (Reuters) - U.S. President George W. Bush said on Thursday that the latest economic data showed the foundations of the U.S. economy are strong.

"Exports are on the rise. Durable good orders are strong. That suggests that businesses are anticipating a better second half of the year. So I believe the foundations of this economy are strong," Bush told a meeting of coal producers.

He said a report of modest economic growth in the second quarter was "not great news but encouraging news.

"Now it's not as good as we'd like it to be," Bush said. "A few months ago, there were predictions that the economy would shrink in the first quarter, not grow. But in fact the opposite has happened."

Yeah, the latest method of blocking is not too block, but to make the page load incredibly slowly or to have it simply go to a Chinese search engine, that will not let you see the page even when you search with it. Also, I have run into a page where you can enter a password to bypass the blockage, which greatly interests me. If I can find the code (I will ask the students) I might be able to finally see all those horrible banned sites. You know, like the stamp auction I used to use before I came here. All those horrible places.

I wonder when they will realise that blocking the Internet is a waste of time. With proxies and such. i can see everything anyway, except for certain embedded videos that use scripts. Learned it all from my students.

Oh, and I have tried to talk about the Canadian and US Elections to my students and they have zero interest. I could say it is because they have been raised under a communist system, but most students in North America probably wouldn't care either.
