Haven't really afforded that same sort of optimism and seeing the best in someone when it relates to Obama, though, have you?

C'mon, Matt - that was pretty unprovoked. Scott's actually been playing nice as of late.

Actually, I did in the primaries.  I really liked Obama at first and then switched to Clinton over time and his wife only made matters worse.  She comes across as Sherry Palmer from 24.  She makes my skin crawl.

What was unprovoked?  Asking if he's afforded the same kind of optimism and seeing the best in someone where it relates to Obama is hardly an attack.  It's a valid question.  Is that sort of thing only reserved for the person you support or can you be open enough to afford that same outlook to people of both parties?

I support Obama for the election, but my first impression of McCain
suspending his campaign is that it was a masterstroke. Obama was the
first to reach out and say they should rise above politics, but McCain
outmaneuvered him politically by suspending the campaign. I don't think
any of us can say if McCain's motivations are political or from the heart,
but I can't deny he said and did exactly the right thing on Wednesday.

<clipping some>

I like what McCain did, but it doesn't change my vote. My views on our
country's future are best expressed and embodied by Obama. I'm proud
to have voted for him in the primary and will do so again in November.

Tim, did you forget to get in line for the kool-aid this morning?  :P

That was such an open-minded view.

"I am John McCain and I approve this funeral."

-Lord, he looks tired and feckless. The man doesn't appear to have the energy to finish  this campaign, let alone govern for 4 years.

What a pile of b.s.

First, if you're going to drop everything in the illusion of doing the people's work, your first act shouldn't be sucking in a bit of free air time. It would look more genuine to have a photo release of the man, on  a plane, knee deep in paperwork, acting as an executive.

It would serve him right for the press to release a running itinerary of this 'bold move.' The merit of his actions should lay in his actions. If he did something of value then this made-up drama has value. And if he did nothing beyond a photo op, it was meaningless showmanship. My money is on the latter.

I love the FARK headline - "Frail old man run away from African American asking for change"

By and by...

I wonder if our resident Economist would care to calculate the bill for this grand adventure into Socialism. There's the outlay of 700 billion dollars in cash. With reasonable expectations of getting a 50 to 80% return. A point often noted by proponents of the deal. So that means we can reasonably expect a 20 to 50% loss.
20 to 50% of  700 billion dollars.

Now we need to calculate the interest payments. What's the market rate these days? Given the fact that money isn't growing on trees, the likely hood of paying off the principle is way, way, way down the road. Especially when one considers we are already 53 trillion dollars in debt. -You know, when you borrow on a credit card... you have to factor these things into the cost.

So there's interest on 700 billion... eventually to shrink to between somewhere between 140 billion to 350 billion. Plus the 140 billion... Let's say it only takes 30 yrs. to make good on the loan. At current rates, what is the real cost of the bail out over 30 yrs?

It's coming on Christmas.
They're cutting down trees.
They're putting up reindeer and singing songs of joy and peace...

And to think they picked on Democrats all these years for being big spenders...

Whoooo!

That's not including the bail outs for Fanny, Freddie and AIG...

Not including the cost of an indefinite stay in Iraq at 2 billion a week...

Someone break out the calculator and do the math, please.

I've been thinking about how old Bush looks since he's been in office and the same when Bill Clinton was in. If McCain would get in, I swear after four years he'll look like the Crypt Keeper. LOL

If you were John McCains age and position in life would you be running for president? Man I would be sitting on a beach some where with my toes in the water listening to Jimmy Buffet.
