It didn't seem Sarah Palin, in talking to Couric, understood what a "conflict of interest" is. I don't mean anyone's particular conflict, but the term itself. She gets that vacant "what's the Bush doctrine?" eye-panic and just repeats her former verbatim answer.

***

This is at least the second time she's had trouble with the Bush Doctrine of preemption.

This is akin to a Vice Presidential candidate running in 1952 who lacks familiarity with the Truman doctrine of containment.

Palin is unqualified to be Vice President.

So unless things fall apart between now and tomorrow night, there's no reason why McCain wouldn't be in Mississippi for the debate.

Bruce, in all fairness, and I know this is the third time I'm dropping this quote here, but...

Wasn't that what Obama noted Wednesday when he said that they both have big jets with their names painted on them, and that it doesn't take long to fly in, do your job, and get to your next appointment?

I get that I'm driving this point to the ground, but I can't see McCain's actions this week as anything but clumsy and miscalculating at every step of the way.  I've lost any last bit of respect I had for the guy.

As I noted in my link right above your post, Horace, even the people in Alaska agree with that!

Love Palin's answer to Couric's request for specific examples of McCain pushing for more regulation:

"I'll try to find ya some and bring 'em to ya"

That's pretty down-homesy.

<<Did you see Palin with Katie Couric yesterday?>>

I hadn't seen it, but thanks for the heads up. I am watching it now, and can't say that am any more impressed then I was before... maybe even a little less so. I find it truly frightening that anyone would think she is qualified to be Vice-President/possible President. I have to ask...WHY? WHat is it about her that makes anone think she is qualified? Really? I would rather have someone who admits that they have no foreign policy experience. But SHE is STILL insisting that living in Alaska gives that experience.  I couldn't see her running my town of 8,000... much less my country... not now.

Really?  I missed the interview because I was still at the office but how is that possible?  If you brand yourself a reformer shouldn't you understand what conflict of interest means?  If this is true (and I have no reason to doubt Michael) this is WORSE that not knowing what the Bush Doctrine is.  And far more troubling!

$1 billion every day for Iraq.

Is there documentation to back this up?

I've heard this several times but just heard an Obama ad yesterday that said it was 10 billion a month.  I may not be a math whiz but I don't think 10 billion divided by 30 equals 1.

I'm a big fan of the Lincoln/Douglas style of debating.

They didn't ignore it.  They simply refused to believe what you're shoveling them.

The later replies say otherwise.

To say that he's "doing what he's elected to do" shows a kind of naiveté that surprises me coming from you.

I don't think so.  I see it as looking at the best in someone and being optimistic.
