The problem with your referring chart Kevin is that it does not reflect the reality of how people use the term or, in fact what the term means. When people talk about ambulance chasers they are generally referring to personal injury, or tort lawyers, without drawing any distinction as evidenced by the definition Scott provided.

I am working on a rebus rebuttal; meet you here tomorrow? :)

Emery, normally I love you, but if you refer to that dreck I quoted as "Al's
site" one more time I'm going to have to go mediaeval on your ass.
That site, if you're going to ascribe it to a member of this forum, is Scott
Richard's site.
He offered it up in a post where he claimed that 'ambulance chasers' was
not shorthand for all tort lawyers but just a subset of those lawyers.
Presumably he intended for the link to that site to prove his point.
It failed miserably, as anyone who spends any time on that site (what I
quoted from it was a mere tip of the iceberg, sadly) will quickly realize
that not only does that site espouse the exact opposite of what Scott was
trying to say (quite effectively proving Geoff's point, I might add) by
lumping all tort lawyers into their scorn, but that is merely a subsection of
a site dedicated to lumping all lawyers, regardless of what branch of law
they practice, into the old, tired, and unfair characterizations that are
exactly the kind of thing that Geoff is speaking out against.
At any rate, it is most definitely not "my site."

Al's site was lawyer jokes and seemed to be informal to say the least.
Yep. That's why I specifically included the word "fun" when directing him toward the site and didn't offer it as any type of evidence. I was chuckling as I read through it so decided to share.

And you thought, given what Geoff had already said about hurtful
stereotypes, that he would find it amusing?

There are good lawyers. I know of one prominent attorney in my state (who is also a state legislator) who was instrumental in getting tort reform passed.
I had no problem understanding the distinction Scott was making between lawyers who are primarily interested in personal gain vs attorneys who practice in an ethical manner.
And presidents should be lawyers? Inane generalization.

Did you read all that I wrote or did you just decide you would insult me for fun. See here is where the "I'll treat you, as you treat me" comes into play.
Did you read this part I posted?: I am not saying that only lawyers should be president, but I do value that educational background. If you have a good man with a law degree running against a good man without one, I would go with the one that had the degree in law.
I continue to smite you. :0)

I'm picturing Dan Rather dressed in a chain coif and gothic breast
plate, speaking into the pommel of a zweihander for some reason....
Do what you have to Al. I just don't find Geoff's definition of
ambulance chaser or your defense of Geoff's definition particularly
persuasive. I shed no tears for people offended by lawyer jokes anymore
than you shed tears for people offended by Palin jokes. That's life.
That's how I'm wired. If that makes me "the other" then so be it. So if
you have a mind to put on your regulate'n boots then now's the time.

I think Al was kidding Emery, I just think he doesn't want to be credited as a person that has a website full of jokes that put down a group of people, funny or not.
I hear woman or blonde jokes all the time and people think I will completely enjoy them, some I do, but after a while they get old.
Even though I like Hillary this is funny.

There are a lot of people in government with law degrees, and I'm not sure that's necessarily been an advantageous thing. Maybe we should elect nothing but chemists and accountants.
I cannot be harmed by your smiting. Smite. Smitening. Something like that.

Chuck, has been in Germany and Paris on business for about a week now, a girl gets lonely and it makes me want to go for something completely different, shake things up a little. Chucks not a self important pontificator, so what the heck.
Edited to remove cuss word, I am trying Geoff. :0)
I read where Biden has been making some strange statements, I am going to chalk it up to being tired from non stop campaigning, but what if he was ill again, how would that play out? I wish him continued health, but would Hillary be waiting in the wings?
