I highly recommend Mo Rocca's blog for his list of Sarah Palin movies (For Adults Only):

Especially on this, the day that the Road to Nowhere opens.

Having said that, there are about 3 or 4 people that this thread could do without as the majority of their posts are superficial and predominately based on cliched insults.

I can think of one or two people whom I find a little judgemental, too.

On the other hand, some of the cheerleaders are excessively trite in their responses

The thread had personal attacks long before it reached page 300.  I can actually understand how people get heated in the midst of some of these discussions and may even use sarcasm or hyperbole for effect.  Having said that, there are about 3 or 4 people that this thread could do without as the majority of their posts are superficial and predominately based on cliched insults.

In spite of some recent nastiness, this thread remains incredibly civil.  I don't know you Jeff, you only recently started posting here but you seem like a pretty straight shooter welcome, the thread needs that.  As for others here, well I know Jodi, I know Mike and I know Al.  All three generally give others the benefit of the doubt and all three have pretty good hearts.  So lets all step back, catch our breaths and remember that although we disagree sometimes its no reason for nastiness.

I know Jodi and Mike can be passionate in their beliefs and sometimes when people care as much as they do about their country or their beliefs, feelings of anger or frustration can lead to sarcasim.  And lets face it: over the last 8 years people of all political stripes have had a lot to be angry about.  Mike and Jodi are good people and to me their posts, like yours, always have some merit, even if I disagree or I think they've drunk some spiked Kool-Aid.  Give them both another shot.  And Al Cook is good guy too, even for a Canadian.  :o)  Seriously, Al's a good guy who has no qualms admitting when he's wrong and saying so -- something that is very rare on the internet.

So lets all cool it with the rhetoric and attacks and get back to the respectful discussion.

Knut, the point should be painfully apparent.  The is a global event as far as just about every indicator is concerned.  Witness, Europe's moribund economic growth over the last few years and domestic Chinese stocks suffering more than 40% decline up through the beginning of September.  America is simply, by far, the biggest player on the world's economic stage; while some global markets have effectively crashed, to rise again.  Europe has been facing a stagnant growth trend for quite awhile and the housing overvaluation--central to the ongoing economic event--was never limited to America.

Yet, for instance, it was the rally in American and Asian financial markets on Thursday and Friday which were instrumental to the Oslo Exchange's 7% rebound on Friday.  Even the uptick in oil prices had to take a backseat to the fact that it was gains made overseas which powered that market rebound at the end of the week (oil didn't hit a stride until weekend trading).  Now, when America *really* feels the need to pull itself up by its own hair, in what position will others already have succumbed?

Your own Finance Minister, Kristin Halvorsen, said it well:

"Those who know the markets well are not surprised by what is happening. We may take a loss in the short term, but we'll profit in the long run."

All this bickering ...

You guys should just vote for Dr Horrible as president. It'll be anarchy. That he'll run. And we'll all be better off. Banking crisis? He'd just rob the banks. Because the status is NOT quo, and he's just the guy to fix it.

And if we're really nice, maybe we can get the keys to a shiny new Australia.

(sorry)

Why not?  I'll even give you the long-winded part for free.

Long-winded, yes...never rambling.

Now, what else can be said for a person who states that an Employment Release doesn't, and cannot possibly, contain estimates of the sort which it does contain; only to, then, turn around and quote for his use the employment figures contained in the exact same sort of release?

Jodi, if you'd like to explain that contradiction, feel free.
