- Sarah Palin, inadvertently describing her running mate
Wow, one might get the impression that she's describing her VP.

That's true, Tom. But on the flip side, I've seen plenty of Democrats inadvertently describe Obama while knocking Palin's relative lack of experience.
Given that, I think the experience question is pretty much a wash in this race.

The experience question is, to my mind, the silly sort of filler the media eats up like the salad bar. No one is experienced as president until they are in the big seat. Cheney had experience, and so did Rumsfield, in an administration bringing war to the middle east. The Gulf War accomplished its objectives and was one of the largest coalitions of International Forces history has ever seen. They were both there, in the White House, when the planning and objectives were mapped out. They had that experience and look how the planning of the current Iraq war turned out? Experience does not indicate good judgment.

At least Obama has met foreign leaders. Palin hasn't met one. That was surprising to me.

That's surprising?
US Senators, a national position, are much more likely to have the opportunity to meet a foreign leader than any position at the state level such as the governor. Senators and Congressmen attend Washington functions where head's of state from other countries would frequently attend.

True, Scott, but various state governors and larger city mayors also frequently meet world leaders (and not necesarrily heads of state) for state business purposes. To assume that any international business is done singularly on the federal level is somewhat naive. That said, in and of itself, I do not see it as big issue one way or another. Where it is important, and where I think it is a fair question is as it pertains to her world view. Certainly, my view of the world has been informed by my international travels as well as the ferners I've met. Her experiences as it pertains to such encounters are sure to inform her view of the world.

More depressing that McCain wants to spend 3 times as much on defense as on health care.

[In response to Jeff's chart] I dunno- I'd rather our money going to help us than sent overseas to help others.

I suppose that is a difference between Ireland and the US. Politicians (particularly the Minister for Health) would be criticised for not spending enough on health.
