I find myself increasingly convinced that the McCain/Palin ticket is going to win. I do not like this thought, and spend much time these days working to convince myself that once he's in Office the real John McCain will re- emerge.
I think that will be the case. I think McCain will only run for a single term. Once in office he won't need to worry about what his party thinks because he won't need them if he doesn't plan on a second term. If so, it would make him much more likely to work with Congress instead of against it and really distinguish himself as nothing like Bush.

Palin's next interview is, understandably, with Sean Hannity.
I can see it now:
Sean : Hello Governor Palin
Palin: Hello Sean
Sean: Oh....Oh....oh......oh god....oh god....yes!!!! yes!!!!! YES!!!!!!!!, excuse me does anyone have a kleenex?
So kind of like every Obama interview? :P

Eyes on the prize, people. Bush is leaving. Bush is leaving. Krusty's coming. Krusty's coming. Oops, lost my train of thought. Bush is leaving...
Maybe JB's right and once he can shed all the detritus he's had to accumulate to get where he is, the "real" John McCain will emerge. That would make a killer inauguration speech: "I'd like to start by firing every single one of my advisors..."
Also: it's Hillary's own fault she wasn't even under consideration for VP. Run a scorched earth campaign, and you end up with nothing but scorched earth. Hell, even Biden's got a "the kid cain't cut it" soundbite out there.

O'Reilly certainly didn't give Obama a "kleenex" interview.

Obama got this hard hitting question in an interview.
If your vice president had to be an athlete, who would you pick?" which was Scott's first question. (Obama picked Walter Payton.)
I think most people would pick a living person to be Vice-President.

O'Reilly and Hannity always make me laugh. Fair and balanced right? I love the Colbert piece (or was it Stewart?) where they found footage of O'Reilly losing it.

"No... too obvious..." -Tom
Not pink, but there's always something like this:

Not for nothing, but the Log Cab Republicans should be applauded for the work they are doing in the Republican Party. Long overdue, the 2008 convention was, in recognition by the party of those efforts, the first to fully credential the Log Cabin Republicans as official guests of the GOP. And, in June, it was due to the LCR heavy lobbying of Republicans that the New York State Legislature assembly was able to pass a bill that would make same-sex marriage possible. The LCR were able to get--by HEAVY ear-bending and petition--four Republicans to vote for the bill; and this makes New York the first state to pass a same-sex marriage act with bipartisan support.

'Enjoyed reading your longer post, Rich. It struck me as a breath of fresh air to read a solid, mainstream Democrat viewpoint. On this, only:
"And none of it paid for. Money borrowed from the Chinese. Money they are using to build their military into a major power." -Rich
No. China accounts for only an estimated $502 billion dollars of public debt held by foreigners. Even this figure is generous, the Treasury's Bureau of Financial Management Service officially lists the figure as $350 billion. Hardly a sugar daddy for U.S. expenditures in either case, and by any measure. Japan owns more U.S. public debt, for goodness' sake.
Now, to make a point, were you as concerned about our debt when it was at far higher levels as a percentage of our GDP in, say, 1996 or 1997, under President Clinton? I was, and commended President Clinton and a Republican controlled congress for their attempts to reduce growth. Yet, despite those efforts, mandatory entitlement programs continue to grow in size and scope with no realistic answer from either party. I'll gladly point to the Bush presidency and former Republican-controlled congress as all-stars in this regard, but the current Democrat-controlled congress has certainly proven no more responsible. Is a Democrat-controlled congress under a Democrat executive any more likely to buck the trend?
On this separate post:
"We look at what is and see America on a wrong course." -Rich
Rich, you might not have engaged in the hyperbole of pointing to a "destroyed" economy or stating, outright, that America is a "shithole"; but, others certainly have done. This thread is rife with such fanciful statements, UTTERLY divorced from reality.
