None of us here are foreign policy experts. But most of us, being intelligent, inquisitive, responsible voters, have at least heard of the Bush Doctrine or the equivalent term "preemptive war". It's what got us into the Iraq mess.

Cindy McCain did not say Palin is a foreign policy expert.

What indeed is at stake? Russia has no shortage of oil and mineral wealth. So they wouldn't invade Alaska unless the idea is to outrage America and start a nuclear war. It's about as likely as Mexico invading Texas.

ok, maybe not even an expert. What does Alaska's geographic happenstance have to do with knowing anything about the outside world? More directly, in what way does being next to Russia mean Governor Palin knows anything about Russia or the evil Russians running the place? Putin is thousands of miles away. If I remember correctly (and that's never a sure bet) National Geographic did a story a while back about Siberia and I want to say that Siberia is so lacking in people that it makes Alaska look like a metropolis (simile is mine). So when the Governor says "In some parts of Alaska you can see Russia" you're looking at rocks...

to my point, Alaska as a political entity has no special relation with Russia, no diplomatic accords...so she knows as much about Russia as I do, and I dare say possibly less. She did tell Gibson the Russian invasion of Georgia was unprovoked...

I live in Kansas, so I want to be known from now on as an expert on Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Colorado.

Hey, Alaska's between Russia AND Canada.  If anything, Palin is DOWNPLAYING her foreign policy expertise.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Siberia has almost 40 million people.

*****
Dublin is closer to Moscow than Alaska

Dublin/Moscow:

Miles: 1,735.17
Kilometers: 2,792.41

Anchorage/Moscow:

Miles: 4,341.56
Kilometers: 6,986.87

42.2 people (30% of the Russian population) across 13.1 million square kilometres (77% of Russia). 3 people per square kilometre so that's why you'd think it was less.

Alaska has 626,932 people across 1.7 million square kilometres. Less than one person per square kilometre.

Also, I'd imagine the stormy Bering Sea acts as a significant natural barrier between Alaska and Siberia. I'd bet even civilian contact between Alaskans and Siberians is rare.

edited: "Strait" to "Sea". Hey, it both starts with an "s".

I'm just curious for those on here who have said they agree with Palin's policies, what are the ones your talking about? I have to assume some of you are against gay marriage but don't have the balls to say so. Do you agree with her abortion policy? Her stance on creationism teaching? Abstinence only sex-ed? What?

I just can't believe any rational human being would rather have an evangelical christian, who uses her faith to guide her public policy in the White House, than Obama or Biden. Have the last 8 years taught you nothing?

William I would be curious too, but don't hold your breath for the answer.

What is the likelihood that Palin would sit for an interview with someone who is a well-known Democratic partisan, who is frequently and extensively critical of her on-air, and who has the stated intention of challenging her with tough questions?

I think she would be willing to do so under the same terms as Obama.  19 months after the request.
