Sorry, Mike -- I wasn't really asking a question, I was just holding up the rhetorical mirror for William's benefit.

From indications on this thread, it's a classy planet indeed.

Well, it's one where one can live with dignity and self-respect, so, yeah, I'm at home there.

Yeah, there's an inherent dignity in calling women "c*nts".

William: 8No. It's her misfortune to be an anti-abortion, anti gay rights
religious conservative. Any human being who wants abortion for rape
victims banned has something wrong in their very soul. I cannot think
of worse punishment than to force a rape victim to carry the child of
their rapist to term.
*waves hand*
If abortion is killing, it would quite obviously still be immoral for a rape victim to perform one. That's just intellectual consistency. Punishment should go to the instigator of the crime.
Michael: Actually, I just think the woman's a cunt.
It's your right to feel however you want. But the McCain/Palin camp loves it when you talk like this; these sorts of juvenile attacks cost the democrats the last two elections.

Dignity and Self-respect are important. The comments you just chose to associate yourself with were not very respectful or dignified though. You're comfortable with that, Mike? I appreciate that emotions run high on the subject of politics and religion, but let's all try to keep the level of discourse here a little higher than that. Just a suggestion. I wouldn't want anyone to think I'm trying to be a moderator, or anything.

Keith, the democrats lost the last two elections because of:
1) Religious fundementalist coming to the polls to vote against gays
2) Swift Boat Attacks
3) Ralph Nader.
And, that was William who said that, not Michael. And I still agree with William.
I'm not afraid of words, of the english language. I applaud William for speaking his mind.

Keith, I think there are problems with your argument about abortion being "killing" and immoral. Executing criminals is also killing, state sanctioned killing, so it should be "immoral" too, given the constraints of your argument. Do you agree, because many pro-lifers are also pro- death peanlty, which seems inconsitent to me? It defeats the idea of intellectual consitency completely. If abortion is ever banned, I hope there are provisions included that would allow for humane abortions in cases of rape and incest, at the least, because, that is just a continuation of a crime against women that I would not be able to support at all.

The tragedy is we know SO much about conception, and avoiding conception, that most abortions should be simply unnecessary. But a lovely confluence of the biological imperative and deliberate efforts to curb sex education have revealed us to be a species that sometimes acts like barn animals on Cinemax. Sad.

Clearly, I do, Dave. How long have we known each other? How many times have you asked me these questions?
It's getting to the point where we can set a watch by when one of you ask me if I'm not "better than that".
I stand by what William said. I may not, in this case, have used the same words - but I understand where he's coming from, and I respect him for saying it. I'm not going to hide behind fear of words, false civility or Politically Correct talk.

>>I'm not afraid of words, of the english language.<<
This has nothing to do with *fear* of words but of being (just a little) respectful.
>>I applaud William for speaking his mind.<<
Decorum in the forum would elevate the discussion.

Hey, it was good enough for John (and Cindy) McCain...
Just kidding; I fervently think and hope that Sarah Palin isn't so one-dimensional. After all, there's a 50% chance she's our next VP, and we can't afford anything less than the best these folks have to offer.
