John Bodin writes: "Acknowledging the existence of domestic nutjobs like
Timothy McVeigh and lunatic fringe white supremacist groups here in the
U.S., what would you say the odds are of Obama surviving his first term?
And what effect do you think it would have on this country if a black
President was assasinated by someone who is not black, or even if there
was an attempt on his life?"
First, George W. Bush toured the Middle East a few months back, going to
several countries where I'm willing to bet he's not Mr. Popular. I think the
Secret Service is very, very good at his job.
That having been said, it's Friday and I'm feeling charitable so let me ask
you, if the odds of Obama and McCain surviving their first terms in office
were equal, who do you think is more fit to succeed to the office of the
presidency -- Mr. Biden or Ms. Palin?

I was reading everyone's posts and I got to thinking, how does
Washington ever get anything done?
You know, Jodi, that is such a good and pertinent question! I think we all
tend to get caught up in the rhetoric of elections and it benefits the
parties (and the media) for that to happen, but the reality is that
regarding the issues that reach the greatest number of americans
(defense from Terrorism, healthcare, energy independence all come to
mind) there is general agreement on the goal but usually disagreement
over how the goal is achieved. To achieve progress, therefore, means we
all must be willing to compromise. The definition of which is that
everyone leaves the table feeling that they gave up too much but happy
that the compromise was made. The best presidents have understood.
Ronald Reagan did, Bill Clinton did, Dubya . . . . well, the site doesn't have
enough bandwith to list what he doesn't understand!

Wooten backs Palin? Kind of surprising. Bet that guy would just like the reporters to leave!
All of a sudden, every major network in America is questioning him. "Is it true you tasered your son? Did you really threaten to shoot the governor's father? Were you drinking while behind the wheel of your squad car?"
God, I'm glad none of my friends are running for president. "Did you really threaten to lock your son in the attic for six years???"

depends on which PETA you are talking about. I find the People Eating Tasty Animals crowd to be pretty well balanced.
Well! At least something we agree on!

John, are you suggesting... like... a reverse Bradley effect? Like.. they're saying that they'll vote for Pailin because they don't want to appear sexist but then in privacy vote for Obama?
Or...
I'm confused by the structure of your post.
Bottom line? I wouldn't put too much faith in the poll numbers. Obama will win either way - he just won't win by as much as I thought he was originally going to...

Dave - my memory says that it was you, but in fairness to you - it was 4 years ago, and I could be chalking it up to the wrong person. I don't know if the old forum is around or searchable, but I do have very specific memories of wondering what sort of fits-fights I was going to face at the MOC based on heated things said on that thread.
I also remember - very clearly - just noted it in the same post that you're quoting - that you turned out to be a hell of a nice guy in person. I've given you frequent "props" over the last four years for the pancakes you took us out for.
I was talking to a fellow JBFer recently, and this occurred to me - perhaps I'm misunderstanding your posting style, and vice-versa. I may be reading ill intentions in your posts where there are none. Who knows?
I think the smartest thing to do is just follow Brother Malcolm X's advice - he said "You don't speak to an Italian man in Japanese" - I should try just talking to some of you the way you talk to me - and then we'll get along. Let's give it a try for the next few posts...

I don't remember Dave ever writing "watch your back". But I do remember something about not talking politics with Mike.

Of course she wants to remove polar bears from the endangered list. What's the use of having a constitutionally guaranteed right to bear arms if you can't use those arms to shoot bears?
What we need now, is another amendment to guarantee the right to arm bears. 'cause let's face it, the only way to prevent polar bears from being shot is to let them have guns. Forcing them to walk around unarmed is like an invitation to get them shot.

I say we make those damn polar bears get jobs. All they do is swim, fish and take up our tax dollars.
