Michael: MAD worked with us and the "commies" for years so why not everyone else?
MAD requires a lot of faith in your opponent's rationality. Despite all their atrocities, the commies were rational enough not to use nukes. So are the Chinese, french, English, Israel, etc... Pakistan... well, it's starting to get iffy. Iran? North Korea? I'm not sure about the enlightened and rational self-interest of those leaders.

Mike: Ay! Carefull what you wish for, Keith. I think the best thing the GOP
has going for it is committed Republicans voting the "values" and
religion ticket.
Hey, although we've been at odds the last few dozen pages, I'm not necessarily wishing for the GOP to win. I want the best candidate to win, and none of us really know who that is. We just have our guesses. I'm trying hard not to commit to anybody. Obviously, my political principles are much more in line with the Republicans than the Democrats, so I've mentioned that I disagree with Obama on most issues, but I will probably go third party, and vote for Bob Parr. I haven't decided yet, and will try not to until the day of the election.
My arguments over the last few days have mainly been a reaction against the terrible things said about Palin; I hope I would have defended a Democratic nominee against such unjustified personal attacks. I know I've defended Obama.

Keith yeah but you have to take chances in life.
I liked one proposal of Reagan's during his so-called Star Wars plan (which was to be laser based according to Edward Teller and x-ray lasers too not the stuff the press reported as "Buck Rogers garbage") and that was to share the technology with the world.
I don't know who is rational. I read "Bush On The Couch" and if I believed it all I'd say Bush was a dry drunk who is not rational.
You have to realize that one day some lunatic is going to get nuclear weapons. It is bound to happen.
I don't think MAD actually worked. Russia was planning to actually fight a nuclear war. Their launchers could be reloaded. They had a plan to blitz Europe with an ABC attack and this led to the development of the neutron bomb (kills people but leaves buildings alone for the most part).
North Korea? That guy's sunglasses and love of Elvis seems to be strange but then again they are starving. The Iranians? I don't remember when they attacked someone. A long time ago I think.

Cylons? Hmmm. What if Obama is the final cylon? That would explain why he hasn't said what to do about them.

OK McCain got more people to watch him. but Obama got more donations after McCain spoke, kind of tells you what all those people thought of McCain.
Says to me that maybe Obama supporters really feared McCain might win and are hoping if they throw enough money at it they can turn things around?

Yeah, yeah... of course, I noticed that right after I pressed enter. Hey, one typo in a whole post is better than my average...

Craig - I forgot to address this earlier - you are 100% correct. The ALF are a bunch of whacked out nuts. I don't say that because of my feelings about animals (they're tasty!) but because I've spent 30 years living on meds derived from animal testing. I hate those ALF screws. And those morons in PETA, too!
It depends on which PETA you are talking about. I find the People Eating Tasty Animals crowd to be pretty well balanced.

One place I think Palin really helps in this campaign is now McCain will be free to be as moderate as he wants and appeal to everyone other than the religious conservatives. Palin will be enough to pacify them now.
