My brother is taking the series of tests to become one. He was a Mathematics major. I'd rather tear out my eyes! It would be so boring. LOL

An actuary and the actuarial chances one has after having cancer are two
very different things.

Acknowledging the existence of domestic nutjobs like Timothy McVeigh and lunatic fringe white supremacist groups here in the U.S., what would you say the odds are of Obama surviving his first term? And what effect do you think it would have on this country if a black President was assasinated by someone who is not black, or even if there was an attempt on his life?
Far-fetched? Not really, given this country's history:
Assasinated: Lincoln, Garfield, McKinley, Kennedy
Assasination attempts: Andrew Jackson, Theodore Roosevelt, Franklin Roosevelt, Harry Truman, Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan

Is it not more? I suppose it depends on what an "assisination attempt" is. I would have thought that EVERY president had at least one. Reagan had a few, didn't he?

So John, are you saying we shouldn't elect a black president because the country's not ready for one? That there are too many people wanting to assassinate him?

Interesting point, John Bodin.
(Though, in all fairness in respect to President Ford, there was no way to
prove those steps were making an actual attempt on his life...)

So Pakistan's okay with us marching in and doing our business on their soil, uninvited? Or do you just not care what Pakistan would think, or how they would respond?
President Bush declared war when our troops entered Iraq -- are you advocating that declare war on Pakistan to retrieve bin Laden?

That's right. There's no reason to believe firing a gun at President Ford was an actual attempt on his life.

Well, if that's where Bin Laden is, and Pakistan is unwilling to allow
diplomatic troop access, then yes. It would be a hell of a lot more
appropriate than declaring war on Iraq ever was.
Edited to add quote for context.

I'm not saying that at all, but I do realize that even though I would have no problem electing a black president, that doesn't mean that everyone else in this country feels the same way.
And, since you answered my question with a question, let me return the favor:
Are you saying that we shouldn't be concerned about whether or not the country's ready for a black president? That even if the country is not ready for a black president, he would still be the best choice regardless of the potential repercussions?
