Even with the controversy, Obama still fares better against McCain then Clinton. I'm pretty sure he will still get the nomination. Where he has a problem is in the general election. He'll be "swiftboated" on this issue all through the campaign.

I thought the scandal was much ado about nothing, and I thought his speach, like everything else in his campaign, was excellent.
I can't see that many delegates swapping sides - I think the damage is done, but too late to save Hillary.
I feel that, when all is said and done, enough sane voices will come out and remind Americans that this was a devisive and racist move and that we're smarter and better and Obama is the best candidate.

Will these be the same sane people who won't vote for him because his middle name is Hussain?
Sorry I am cynical but I am getting so tired of idiots and morons. Living in China is no helping matters either. :)

I always thought those people were in the fringe minority, Neil. I'm starting to think it's more than just the fringe now, but it's too early to tell. Ask me in a few months.

Polls so far in advance are all but meaningless, but the repeated assertions that Obama fares batter against McCain than does Clinton are dubious, at best.

If Obama appears to lose the nomination because of the Wright situation, there could be considerable backlash among a sizable portion of the Democratic base -- African-Americans. It would be a sobering moment in which the rug was pulled out because Obama was "too black" (this is an extreme viewpoint but one I fear that many blacks might have). I don't know how Clinton could shore up the support of the Obama faithful in time.
This could be a big division in the party, and one that would allow McCain to win the election.

Yes, but it would be a division that would be needed. If voters are really going to stop supporing Obama over this, then these people don't deserve to pick the winner. This is a pathetic racially motivated non-issue, and it's getting way more action that it deserves, primarily because it's racially motivated.
But, like I say - that's worse case scenario - I still see this going away, eventually, and the American People rising to the occasion, and Obama becoming not only President, but one of the great Presidents.

I think not supporting re-votes in Michigan and Florida hurts him as well. He would probably have lost delegates but now he looks like every other politician. Only for something when it benefits him.

Senator Obama has consistently said he will go along with whatever the DNC says with respect to Michigan and Florida. He has not opposed revotes, although he has opposed specific revote plans put forth by various people.
