Well then apparently Obama has fallen for what "the media did."

According to his campaign manager, "Sen. Obama honors and respects Sen. McCain's service, and of course he rejects yesterday's statement by Gen. Clark."

He would've been a terrible VP pick.

Why's that, Chris?

(Not being defensive here; I have no idea why he would or wouldn't make a good VP.)

After reading one of his books, I think General Clark would be a nice Sec. of Defense.

Then his campaign manager was wrong in my opinion, I encourage everyone to watch the entire program.

Not only does Obama have to watch his words, is he expected to be the word police for everyone? In my mind, an impossible task.

Wright said this...........

Wesley Clark said that...............

My point is, people should judge him on his own words and don't fall for hyped sound bites

Good lord did the Michelle saying "whitey" rumor teach us anything.

Unless we become more concerned with real issues, we will continue to get elected officials like George Bush Jr.

Added: Adam I agree completely.

Yes, but based on your point, Obama is doing exactly that! And nice try trying to blame it on his campaign manager (are you trying to avoid any criticism of Obama?)...but he's saying exactly what Obama told him too. Interesting that you don't say "Obama was wrong"...

Some interesting articles have been written regarding the sources of  Obama's fund-raising.  Its not all college students and workers -- the vast majority are highly educated and well off.  The question posed by David Brooks in today's Times is how these people will be heard on policy and whether their concerns will trump some of the senator's promises.

Also looks like Obama will be adopting some Bush Administration ideas*

*Thats a bit of tease!

I watched the Wesley Clark interview and he complimented McCain through out the interview , I did not see an attack on him, I was shocked when the evening news used that and made it look like he attacked McCain. He said he was a hero and served his country with honor.

Some things can be factually acurate, but politically stupid to say. Remember how certain groups got so inflamed when Bill Clinton compared Mr. Obama's win in South Carolina to Jesse Jackson's? Mr. Clark said, “Well, I don’t think riding in a fighter plane and getting shot down is a qualification to be president.” This may be true, but to many people, Mr. Clark may seem to be diminishing Mr. McCain's service. Let's face it. Most of us will never know the kind of sacrifice this man made for his country. To do anything but honor it is, again, just politically stupid.

Not only does Obama have to watch his words, is he expected to be the word police for everyone? In my mind, an impossible task.

I think at a certain point, it does become fair to examine the kind of people a candidate surrounds himself with. Mr. Obama does have some interesting associations. His response, when some of these have become politically embarrasing seems to be, that these aren't the people he has known for all these years. And when you have surrogates going out to essentially campain for you, you have to be, to some degree, responsible for what they say.

I think that is generally right.  The people with whom a candidate associates is a fair question that voters can (and should ask) -- but I don't think putting the words of those people in the mouth of candidate is.  The candidate should, as Obama did first with Wright, and later with Clark, distinguish his views from that of his supporter.  And absent some acts or words of the candidate I think you have to take them at their words. I think that to assume a candidate shares all opinions or values of a supporter (and vice versa) is large leap to take.  But its not unfair to ask where they agree and differ.

While I'm certainly not a Democratic voter, I actually have to give Obama a lot of credit for how respectful he has been of McCain's military service.

Obama has made it clear that he honors McCain's sacrifices and service (as should we all). And he's also made it clear that he doesn't appreciate these baseless attacks on McCain's military service. It reminds me of the way McCain stood up for John Kerry during that whole "swift boat" character assassination in 2004.

It appears we've got two decent, honorable men in the race. There's something to be said for that, regardless of who wins.
