Heard he's got himself locked in a Bay Area movie theatre, watching an endless marathon of KIngdom of the Crystal Skull, and refuses to come out until he's learned to love it.
I could be a while before we hear from him again...
LOL
You all have a great week and weekend!

Maureen Dowd, who is very funny, though not always right, has a good column in today's Times regarding Karl Rove's labeling of Obama. I think she romantacizes Obama in the piece but I think her assessment of Rove's comments are spot on.

Another excellent piece on Iraq by Tom Friedman. If you're not reading this guy . . . well why aren't you?

The Supreme Court ruled that a Death Penalty sentence for child rape violates the 8th amendment. Here's the story from the New York Times
The only open case on their docket (if I am not mistaken) is the Gun Control case.

A bit scary that it was a 5-4 decision, but I had thought it was a no-brainer that the death penalty should only be applied for a crime that resulted in, well, death.

Here in Louisiana, child rape can result in the death penalty (if it's not overturned). I've always been against the death penalty, but I also think child rape is far worse than murder (that may seem counter-intuitive, but consider that presumably a dead person no longer suffers).
Edited for clarity

Here in Louisiana, child rape can and does result in the death penalty.
Not anymore. The cases reviewed by the Court origniated from Louisiana.

I was surprised that someone could be put to death for that crime, I didn't even know that was a sentence they could give. I am surprised 4 thought it was OK.
They need longer sentences, I personally think life is perfect, but death didn't seem fitting.
edited to add: By "fitting" I see it as Vinny does, a life for a life. they deserve life in prison.

I haven't yet read the decision but a legalistic point has to be made. What is at issue in any Supreme Court case is what is constitutional or unconstitutional. The Justices do not decide, necessarily, what is right or wrong. Four justices thought it was constitutional. I don't know they thought it was appropriate.

I work as a "in-house attorney" now (I don't want to say where) so my area of practice is relatively broad now addressing various concerns for institutional clients. My training was in complex commercial litigation, insurance coverage disputes, that sort of things. I have some limited experience in white-collar criminal defense, Health Law, personal injury defense (from the corporate side), employment law (again from a management perspective) and commercial transactional law.

I wanted my oldest to go into law, he is so smart and level headed, he didn't take after his hot headed mom, he has an amazing memory. He can look at things on a non emotional way, he is just really balanced.
His passion though is movies, he is a t-comm major and wants to work in the entertainment industry.
