You are right Tom, but we democrats have been shooting ourselves in the foot for years, I just thought the republicans were smarter. :0)
Wait. Let me toss a couple of names out there. Bush. Quayle. You thought the Republicans were smarter? :P

Here is what I do not understand. Mccain has been in politics for most of his life, why aren't the republicans trying to use the high road defense. Why attack an unknown on none issues, there is not a whole lot of dirt to find. But just by being in politics so long, there will be tons that can be used against McCain. If I had been the republican chairman I would have said, we will not attack, we will only talk about important isuues. I would have muzzled the attack dogs like Lars Larson. They don't help the party.
Jodi:
Its not just a Republican thing. Its a politics thing. Remeber the North Carolina Primary? The NC-GOP ran a detestable add regarding the link between Obama and Rev. Wright. John McCain specifically repudiated that ad. And how did Howard Dean, the DNC chairman respond? By attacking McCain, saying if he can't lead a regional branch of his party* how can he lead America? Wouldn't the high road have been to thank Senator McCain and echo his call?
*Coming from Dean that is particularly laughable!

And once again I'm beaten to the punch by the far more insightful and eloquent Geoff Gibson.
I give up.
I'm neither of those things, and please do not!

Geez, Scott, just when I'm about to give up on you as a "real" democrat, you go and say something like that! Beautiful!

Oh, I'm definitely a real Democrat. If I wasn't absolutely sure in my mind that Obama would be horrible for this country I would vote for him. Or, if the Republicans had put a strong right-winger up I would have voted for Obama as well.

The "Candidate of Change" sure has lived up to his name this week. First, the change in his stance on accepting public financing. Next, he changed his mind on the FISA bill working it's way thru Congress now. Finally, he introduced a change in the Presidential Seal.

I'm sorry if I missed it, Scott, but have you listed why you feel that way? You don't have to, of course, but I'm just curious why. I feel just the opposite, because I think the relative "lack of experience" that people claim of Obama is precisely why positive change is possible: he's not wanting to do things the way they've always been done (something that a lot of experience might influence).

I think the question is: in Washington, if you don't do things the way they've
always been done, can you get anything done at all?

I've been seeing lots of Obama yard signs, and for some reason they've been bugging me -- then my wife mentioned in passing that the red/white/blue circle reminded her of the Allied States of America flag from the TV series Jericho.
The orientation of the stripes don't match, but I think the "rising sun" in place of the "stars" part of the "stars and stripes" is what brought the idea to mind for my wife.
Comparing Obama's logo to the Allied States of America flag got me to thinking (not always a good thing, I admit), and this is the result:

Obama '08 -- America's choice, brought to you by Jennings & Rall . . . for a better America.
