It's appreciated.

When I'm not being fair feel free to call me out on it, Geoff. I trust your
judgement.

You know nothing of the sort.  Why?  Because with the exception of a very few high profile prisoners, we don't know anything about the detainees in Gitmo.  To say that "the majority...were captured while attacking us" is absolutely and utterly absurd based on nothing but what you've heard and read from other people trying to push the need for Gitmo and their cowboy antics.  Seriously, Scott, that's about the most ridiculous thing you've posted in this thread.

I already did.  I said if they were trying to kill our troops (the majority of the prisoners were captured while attacking us) that's proof.  I also said if any of them were taken based on heresay, not in combat, then they should have the right to legal representation.  I was pretty clear.

A repost for clarity sake...

This part is about Enemy Combatants?

I also said if any of them were taken based on heresay, not in combat, then they should have the right to legal representation.  I was pretty clear.

and this part is about Terrorists?
and this reply was in response to "How do we know they were terrorists without a trial"
If they are captured "in Combat" does that not make them a combatant?  It's this ethereal "Terrorist" label that I think is causing part of the confusion...but I think it's meant to so...

Also, I still want to know how how you tell if they were attacking us, or defending their homes...

To me, a military tribunal is the same as a trial for these purposes.

Sure let's pretend they're the same thing...

In this case I will always err on the side of National Security.

It may not be politically correct, but I would always pick infringing upon questionable rights of foreign nationals over dying.

And now your saying that the Detainees at Gitmo are a direct threat to your personal well being and somehow a threat to our National Security?  Please elaborate...

Don

Presumption of Innocence should be a universally applied principle, not a privilege reserved for american citizens.

You know, Knut, I think, philospophically speaking, we need to keep this in mind.  I believe the protections afforded by the Bill of Rights are among the first, and most eloquent, articulations of basic human rights -- which should be what we as Americans are most proud.  When we look to infringe those rights we should be very careful for risk of losing our national soul.

God.  Now I feel like I should hug a tree.  Where are those baby seals?!?!?

Be careful about that -- look at who I voted for in 2000!

Well, I'm not qualified to hand them out, so you'll have to appeal to the
teachers in this thread. We have plenty!

As a music teacher, I don't hand out many gold stars, BUT... I have these cool music note stickers (they sparkle!).

I'm happy to give them out to all the wounded sparrows, martyrs and Canadians we have participating in this thread.

edited to add: treehuggers, too!

Hopefully I only qualify as "Canadian", given your list there, Tom. (I don't so
much hug trees as respect and admire them and support their goals from a
non-creepy distance.)
