McCain's running mate: I like Romney a lot (for much the same reasons I like Richardson) but for some reason he seems to have fallen off the VP radar. There is a sense of the unreal about him though, almost as if he's playing the role of 'Presidential Material'. I want to see him get a little rougher but I do think he's the best candidate on the Republican side. Who isn't named Powell (I don't think Powell would take the slot, though I really felt there should have been a 'Draft Powell' movement to fill the lead slot).

Scott:

I got that thanks.

Yep.  I was about 6 pages behind.  After I posted I saw the later posts.

McCain is going to pick someone moderate, like him, for a running mate.  He knows the conservatives have no other option than him since Obama would be infinitely worse for them.  If he takes a conservative, he chances alienating the moderate supporters who could potentially jump to Obama.

Obama is going to pick someone moderate as well.  He knows he has the liberal votes.  He needs someone to the right of him to be his running mate or else he'll chance alientating the moderate supporters who could potentially jump to McCain.

I can't see a running mate on either side who isn't moderate.

I think Tom is saying if he was playing baseball he would be the pitcher, not the catcher.  :P

And doesn't Tom LOVE to play baseball!  (...Actually, wrestling is my sport, mountain biking is my activity -- still, I likes me some baseball.)

So Hillary gives her "full support" to Obama but keeps her delegates.  Why?  So she can still fundraise?  Can someone explain to me what's goin' on around here?

Why shouldn't she keep the delegates? That's what most candidates do.

It's true, most do.  Frankly, its the only thing she's done so far that hasn't creeped me out too badly.

Keeping the delegates is traditionally a means of exercising some influence over the party platform, isn't it?

Why wouldn't she keep her delegates?  I don't recall John Edwards ceding his delegates.  Anyway, it's not like Obama needs them; he's already met the threshhold needed.  You don't win the race more by continuing to run after you're past the finish line.

It will be interesting to see who McCain and Obama pick as their running
mates. I hope they don't make "political" choices and instead pick someone
they think could be a capable president if something bad happens.
