But the VP is a heart bat away from becoming president. So you do want
someone who shares your views since they can become president very fast.

Gore's positives:

He's seen what politics-as-usual gets you.  And the country's seen what they get when they don't vote for Gore.

He got more votes for President than any Democrat in history.

He's a good man.

He'd be seen as a great resource, and not a President-in-waiting like he did the first time around.

All the boogeyman arguments the Republicans like to trot out against him are tired and played, and would underscore the growing sense of Boogeyman Fatigue in this country.

Gore doesn't really seem to fit in with Obama's theme of "change" though...

I tried to get work done, but I kept thinking about this whole thing and I gave it a lot of thought. When I am mad at my husband about something I never say anything when I am mad, I wait a while to either cool down and realize it really wasn't important or if it is, I can say it in a calm thoughtful way. I didn't do that in this thread, so I will do it now.

I believe profiling is wrong when it infringes on another person's civil rights.

example: stop a black youth in an expensive car (I think this was Todds example)

Throwing a person in jail just because I think they are guilty (Todds also)

Not allowing a man to be a scout leader on the basis that he is a man.

But it is no ones legal right to be alone with my child and it is MY RIGHT to not allow, whoever I want, to be with my child.

Now I just went and checked Jim Webb and yes he is cute.

Not really, Neil, you're correct.  In general, these days, the choice is really about first limiting any negative exposure and, then, seeking to reap potential benefits.  Even the old, perceived regional demands have given way to the notion of first limiting your exposure.

Keep telling yourself that, Kevin.  And, by all means, attempt to get Senator Obama to come around to your point of view and try to convince Gore to accept the slot.

Kevin at first I was going to say Obama should not pick Gore because he wants "New" even though I Love Gore.

But you brought some really good points up on why he should pick Gore, But I don't think Gore will take the 2nd spot again.

I can't imagine Gore would accept the VP spot (unless God personally promised him that He'd end global warming if Gore would do it).  If he had any interest in that at all, he'd have gone for the Presidential nomination... in this field, he would have had a good shot.  I don't know that Gore would be that strong of an addition to the ticket anyway... I think anyone who likes Gore is probably already planning to vote for Obama.

I like Webb.  Seems like he'd be a good choice.

How about McCain?  Anyone think he will tap Condoleeza, in an attempt to go after disgruntled feminist voters?

All kidding aside - McCain could go with Powell.  It's got the advantage of being obviously cynical BUT at the same time he's picking a capable, experienced hand who also has some anti-Bush cachet (although also a good deal of - fair or not - we-rolled-over-for-Bush cachet, if anyone notices that sort of thing).  ice was too much of an enabler.

Lieberman would be a perfect choice to piss me off.

Hillary would be a perfect choice to go for the Absolutely No Votes cup, something even Alan Keyes couldn't do.

McCain's VP is probably more important than Obama's, since Mother Nature is a far more accomplished assassin  :(

edit: typos
