 QUOTE:
I think the radical/moderate McCain is already gone.

Fair enough.  I haven't looked at him very closely since I already know who I support, so my impression of him may very well be out-dated.  If that's the case, Obama may get a very unenthusiastic vote from me on November 4 -- assuming I can rouse enough interest to even vote.

In fact, Thom, I did say I would leave the party; I can no longer hold my nose and vote.  I will vote for those I support, and no longer support those who wear a badge that says "D" on it, while their actions say otherwise.

If the majority of people who consider themselves "Democrats" vote for Hillary, if she fairly wins the nomination, I will know that the "Democratic" party is no longer the party that supports my beliefs, and will, in all good conscience, be forced to resign from it.

I would not, however, vote for McCain, as he also, does not support my beliefs.  Nor do any of the extremist fringe parties - Green, Libertarian, Peace and Freedom, Communist, etc.  If Hillary gets the nomination, I will vote my conscience and write in Obama.  I will also seek out political representation that supports my beliefs.

Now, in my defense, I'd say that if you have to choose between Obama and McCain, and you consider yourself a Democrat and still choose McCain, that constitutes a "huff" far more than my long considered dissapointment with the direction my party could be headed in.  But then again, I'm the crazy degenerate - or so I read on some internet message boards, so, don't listen to my two cents.

I'd say that if you have to choose between Obama and McCain, and you consider yourself a Democrat and still choose McCain

***

I am a registered Democrat and am inclined to vote in that direction; however, I don't consider that to be a commitment or obligation.  If forced to chose between a moderate Republican and a Democrat I don't care much for, the GOP will get its first vote from me.  McCain may not be as moderate as my memories of him would indicate.  That puts me in an unpleasant position when it comes time to vote.

I took your earlier pronouncement of leaving the Democratic Party as akin to saying, "I didn't win so I'm taking my toys and leaving the playground."  That, to me, is very much a huff.  Your reason stated are deeper than I originally took them, so "huff" is not a fair assessment.  I used you as a single example, but by no means the only source of my impression.  I've encountered Obama supporters who are so ardent in their support that I won't be surprised if they set themselves on fire in protest if he were to lose.

But then again, I'm the crazy degenerate

I don't think you're a degenerate ...

hehe

okay - Touche!  I fully agree that I didn't explain myself earlier in the thread - I also agree with where you're coming from!

And, erm, in all fairness, if I had to live with one of the things said about me, I'm a lot closer to degenerate than I am to crazy!   Heh....

I'm backing Obama.  He's got enough of a resume that I'm wiling to gamble on him for the benefit that his election will have a stark effect on the issue of race in this country.  McCain is my hero.  Even so, I want myself and my sons to live in an America that has had a Black President.  If it was Jessee Jackson, or anyone of that low caliber, then I wouldn't think twice about denying them my support.

Hey - let me piggyback onto Jonathan's post - there's a lot I admire, personally, about John McCain - and my hat is off to him for the extreme sacrifices he made for America.  Nothing but respect for that.  But his voting record is not as moderate as some think, so as decent of a guy as he is, I can't say he represents my values and I personally, wouldn't vote for him.

But, having said that, this'll be the first election in a long time where I'm not disturbed by the Republican candidate.  I like McCain enough, and think America would at least be in good hands with him - it just wouldn't go in the direction I'd like.  But, you know, there were a lot worse candidates than him on the Republican ticket, so, I think he's a good candidate to go up against.

Mike-

I think we might be on similar wavelenghths.  My admiration for McCain has to do with his sacrifice and what I see as a higher degree of personal integrity than that possessed by most of his colleagues.  Like you, I could live with him steering the Ship of State even if I didn't always agree with the course he chose.

How bizarre to be in a position where I almost wish the Democratic field was weaker so I could give him my vote.  But, alas...

All I hope is that the next President undoes what the current President has wrought, with very few if any exceptions.  And that the next Congress has balls AND ethics.

Oh, and I hope Bush does a bunch of pardons and stupid executive orders in his final days so I can watch the Clinton haters/ Bush lovers squirm to defend them.

And it's impossible for me not to admire McCain's toughness as a POW for five years.  High school was only four years and I barely survived.

Ruh-roh.

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/

And as soon as the 24hour news channels decide its an opportune time to bring up the William Ayers connection, it is over.  That, I assume, will drop a little after Obama secures the Democratic nomination.

Ah, well.  Like I said, I can live with McCain.

Interesting....so Obama's minister says that Hillary is having it easy because she's White, and Ferraro's saying that Obama's having it easy because he's black?

Doesn't that balance each other out, then?

I have to admit I expected the dirt on Obama to not really come out until he was officially the Democratic nominee. But so far Hillary's doing McCain's work for him (alluding to a drug-dealing past, etc). I guess she's getting desperate!
